We are looking for a Customs Specialist as an addition to our clients Global Data Management Team.

The purpose of the Customs Specialist, Data Management is to work collaboratively within the Customs Operations team in the Americas to facilitate compliant import and export activities, while working at a global level to support delivery on the global customs strategy. The Global Customs and Export Controls strategy involves a shift in the way we do business to become a "best in class" customs and export controls team. To be successful in this role, the person must demonstrate an ability to think creatively, deliver on innovative solutions and serve as a role model to the team to lead the way on our journey of change.

Global Customs & Export Controls function are organized into global teams based on deliverables instead of geographic locations. The role will report to the Customs Transactions Manager in EMEA, but will be lead by a global Data Management leader and will have colleagues in Belgium, China, Sweden and The United States.

The position is a consultancy assignment through Adecco that stretches until the 1st of April 2023, with a possibility of extension.

About the role
The Customs Data Management team is the backbone of all activities within the Global Customs & Export Control team and is responsible for making all data necessary for compliant customs operations available within its systems timely, efficiently and of the highest quality.

To be successful in this role you should have experience working in customs operations within a global organization. You should have the ability to drive results, build trust through collaboration and have the desire for self-development. The ability to improve processes by breaking them down to their basic levels and redesigning for a better outcome is a plus.

• Manage the supplier solicitation process to ensure all relevant data is available for content calculations
• Assign component HTS Classifications, ECCN Classification and relevant attributes to secure compliance
• Drive automation initiatives to improve the classification process and improve efficiency
• Consistently demonstrate ownership of assigned projects and their delivery
• Monitor system exceptions and resolve issues as required
• Coordinate with other groups within supply chain management as necessary to resolve issues and improve data quality
• Develop and maintain work instructions to secure standardized processes
• Develop and maintain written processes and workflows within Business Management System (BMS).
• Prepare KPI´s to ensure operational effectiveness
• Coordinate with external customs broker to ensure outsourced activities are compliant in accordance with company standards
• Conduct and document internal audits in accordance with the audit plan for all relevant areas. This includes internal audits as well as those required for participation in government programs such as AEO/CTPAT etc.

About you
To succeed in this role, we think that your profile includes experience from the following:

• Knowledge of Customs regulations (15 CFR, 19 CFR)
• Understanding of Free Trade Agreements (FTA´s) Globally
• Computer literate and knowledge with Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of customs self-filing systems such as MIC preferred
• Certified Export Specialist preferred
• Customs Brokerage License preferred
• Three to five years Import/Export Experience
• An educational degree in logistics or similar field preferred
• Service minded with good communication and coordination skills
• Ability to quickly assess complex critical situations
• Proven knowledge and experience with customs compliance processes
• Problem-solving skills, a detailed and systematic approach to planning
