WHAT UTOPIANS DO

We are building a better world for music with innovative big data technology that tracks online music sources and translates them into meaningful music consumption reports for royalty collection.

The way the Music industry manages royalty distribution today is Dystopian: outdated and fragmented. Legacy systems are drowning in data as streaming continues its explosive growth, and exponentially increasing the demands to the industry to transform. The open secret is that the music industry is struggling with the very basics of music accounting: What was played, when and where? Who owns the song being played, and who should get paid?

We call this the data gap. It's the true blocker for wider industry growth. To grow and sustain, the music industry needs a fintech platform company that restores trust in accounting of consumption data, copyright ownerships and ultimately payments.

At Utopia music we are working to bridge these gaps to deliver Fair Pay For Every Play. We’re the only fintech company in music that has solved the data gap with an outcome-based platform business model. The solutions we offer do not threaten to usurp the role of industry incumbents - it is about bringing transparency in the industry and supporting efficient royalty collection to enhance the music ecosystem for the better for all.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

Help us build and retain trust! As Data Compliance Director you will shape and lead initiatives to ensure Utopia Music’s data is kept safe and conforms to current privacy requirements.

You will help conceive and articulate policies to ensure auditable cybersecurity and privacy compliance. As well as ensuring audit and visibility of end to end security, you will ensure full data lifecycle protection including the development of appropriate metrics and monitoring programs - not set it and forget it!

Reporting to Utopia Music’s Chief Data Officer, you will be engaging all areas of the company - from data, through engineering and product, to M&A, finance, marketing, People & Culture, and commercial - ensuring that we mitigate privacy issues for customers, tolerate minimum level of acceptable cyber security risk, and ensure compliance with all relevant privacy laws across jurisdictions.

You will partner closely with Business & Legal Affairs, and third parties who are helping us develop the appropriate blend of in-house and outsourced capability. The successful candidate will help educate the entire company as to the importance of engineering in a ‘Compliance First’ way and how data compliance can drive Utopia forward.

YOUR SKILLSET

- Demonstrable track record in building and rolling out data compliance programs.
- 15+ years professional experience.
- A metrics-driven mindset.
- Knowledge of specific privacy laws and regulations.
- Flexible and focused on enabling business continuity with minimal friction.
- Experience formulating and rolling out data access policies, data audit and retention policies, and incident policies.
- Ability to nurture and drive employee engagement and to build a network of advocates internally.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; including engaging C-suite.
- Experience of data compliance in cloud-based data environments.
- Fluent in English
