The position

As a Data Engineer with Viaplay you will join our Data Science Division which is a central initiative supporting Nordic Entertainment Group. Our mission is to provide our commercial and product departments with solutions for our data lake, product embellishment and analytics. As a member of the Data Engineering team you will work with a solid and mature Big Data architecture hosted in AWS Cloud using open-sourced environment and work with the following coding languages: Java, Python and Scala.

The journey ahead
In the last year, we have brought Viaplay to Iceland, the Baltics, Poland, the US and will go live in the Netherlands and UK in 2022. By the end of 2023, we will be live in 16 countries.

Some of your daily tasks will include - but not be limited to:

- Discussing with team on data lake infrastructure and architecture

- Building and maintaining data lake infrastructure and architecture
- Handling huge amounts of datasets coming directly from our Viaplay product
- Drive changes in our development processes that affect business decisions.

- Engineer solutions which will in turn enhance features in the services such as our recommendation engine.
- Creating, maintaining and investigating hundreds of data pipelines


What we are looking for

To be our next colleague, we believe you are currently either working as a Data Engineer, or as a Software Engineer and want to learn more about Big Data and its principles.

Ideal candidates also meet the following requirements:

- Experience with Python and/or Java development.
- Experience or knowledge in Infrastructure development for Big Data architectures (EMR, SPARK, Airflow, Presto, et.al.).
- Know the inner workings of the ETL/ELT process and software development.
- Cares about the holistic perspective, the end result, and how your work will impact the users.
- Able to share knowledge and communicate with colleagues and stakeholders.
- A commitment to testing, code review and other quality-oriented practices and supporting workflows are also highly valued.
- A good attitude, sense of humor, and ability to work humbly with others in a creative team environment.


Bonus qualifications that makes you stand out from the rest

- Experience with CI/CD using Github.
- Experience working with cloud tech, specifically experience in AWS and its plethora of services.
- Experience in handling and fetching everything from traditional, relational data to semi- or unstructured data.
- Experience working with containerized solutions.
- EXASOL or any other databases.
- Knowledge in SQL.
- Knowledge in Scala.
- Experience with Real-Time processing architecture (Flink, Kinesis or similar).
