Would you like to get a unique and exciting opportunity to assist in building “the best in class” data science function within financial crime prevention? We are now looking for a Data Engineer to help shape the future of Nordea’s defence against financial crime.

Nordea is presently raising its ambitions in the Financial Crime area, aiming for best in class processes. The focus on Financial Crime prevention has increased in the Bank during the recent period. Nordea is facing increasing regulatory expectations from Nordic regulators, as well as from ECB and regulators for the international branches. Group Compliance and Financial Crime is therefore in the process of significantly strengthening its capability to guide and support the organisation to meet these expectations.

Financial Crime Intelligence, Investigations & Analytics (FCIIA), situated within Group Financial Crime Prevention, provides specialist capabilities to support enterprise wide Complex Investigations, Proactive Strategic Intelligence and Financial Crime Monitoring capabilities. FCIIA also provides subject matter expertise to support analytics initiative to drive great efficiency and effectiveness across traditional financial crime monitoring and detection capabilities.


About this opportunity

Welcome to Group Financial Crime Prevention. We add value by supporting the delivery of investigations cases and intelligence analysis using data. This is a role within the analytics area of FCIIA with responsibility of managing cross jurisdictional special investigations and coordinating both operational and strategic intelligence development.

FCIIA provides specialist capabilities to support enterprise wide Complex Investigations, Proactive Strategic Intelligence and Financial Crime Threat Management. 

What you’ll be doing:
* Leverage your programming knowledge to process big data and support building FCIIA’s defence against Financial Crime
* Utilise statistical methods & models to enhance assessment of risk, to highlight concerns, threats and potential scale 
* Support various development initiatives to enhance threat detection and help present updates for senior management team 
* Documenting and communicating the results of your efforts.
* Ensuring solutions meet business needs and requirements.
* Contributing to projects, developing project plans, and monitoring performance.
* A curious mind, not afraid of suggesting data driven solutions that will increase the bank’s effectiveness and efficiency
* Taking responsibility to contribute to and drive important product deliveries, which supports the functions strategic build of capabilities across investigations, monitoring and intelligence

You will join a team with a high focus on Financial Crime prevention covering investigations, intelligence, data and products. The roles are based in Helsinki.

To succeed in this role, we believe that you:
* Have strong analytic background with ability to combine quantitative analysis with business subject matter expertise
* Possess specialist knowledge of Scala, Spark, SQL, Python and the most common data engineering platforms
* Knowledge of most common data science and analytics visualization tools is appreciated
* Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.


Your experience and background:
* A track record of following through on commitments.
* A history of leading and supporting successful projects
* Have experience in handling and working efficiently with large data sets using Hadoop or related cloud platforms
* A bachelor’s degree in Science / Technology / Engineering subjects or related field
* Experience working in financial crime prevention and/or risk management within the financial services industry is a nice to have
* Background within Data Engineering / Machine Learning / AI / Statistics is a plus
* AML (ACAMS, ICA) or Investigations qualifications is desirable
