We are currently looking for a Data engineer with about 2 years of experience to join our Contextual team in Stockholm. Our vision is to be a one-stop-shop for enriching content across Schibsted brands by enabling content-based ads in Schibsted products without tracking users or using 3rd party cookies. We have a special interest in natural language processing (NLP) and particularly Nordic languages! This team is a truly diverse bunch in all aspects, and we hope to find a curious, respectful and friendly new teammate who would enjoy contributing to our conversations from a data engineering perspective.

Schibsted is a family of brands that consists of leading Nordic marketplaces, world-class media houses (we are the largest media group in Scandinavia) and digital companies that empower consumers. Data Foundations is a central team within Schibsted that is responsible for the data platform and building data fueled products with emphasis on volume, velocity and privacy. We are responsible for maintaining and developing machine learning models that are empowering many use-cases in Schibsted, such as: producing insights about our customers, generating segments for online advertising on our sites and personalization of news. Currently, our pipeline processes around 950 million events per day and the output of our models is used by the majority of the Schibsted brands.

As a part of Schibsted, you will also have the opportunity to share knowledge and learn from other data scientists and engineers across the organisation. What you’ll do

- Build, maintain, design as well as optimize and tune data processing pipelines.
- Work together across various disciplines such as machine learning engineers, data scientists, product managers, end users and other stakeholders.
- Design and implement best-in-class GDPR compliant storage solutions.
- Help define our development environment and communicate the best development practices within the organization (i.e. code reviews, testing, etc).
- Enable development of data-driven products and services through cross-team initiatives and collaboration across Schibsted.

What you know

- Skilled at our main programming language, Python. Experience with (and willingness to learn) Scala and/or Java is a plus.
- Experienced in building robust, scalable and high-performance data pipelines.
- Experienced with large-scale system design and integration.
- Experienced in working with cloud solutions (AWS Lambda, CloudFormation, S3, Humio, Datadog, Kubernetes).
- It’s a plus if you also know: ElasticSearch, databases and SQL, CI/CD (Travis, Spinnaker), Kafka/Kinesis.

We are about 250+ people in Oslo, Stockholm and Krakow, and collaborate closely with other product and tech teams in all units in Schibsted. Areas of responsibilities include data & technology strategy, privacy/data trends/responsible data & machine learning, information security and internal IT.
