Data Engineer - DevOps

What You’ll Do
You will join our stellar Engineering team where you will spend your days with our Data Science team, working on the Monocl platform and building our data science infrastructure. This is an opportunity to work with a range of technologies and ambitious ideas. Monocl's engineers are defined by their ability to solve complex problems, an integral skill when working to build solutions that will ultimately allow Life Science organisations to research, develop, and distribute much needed drugs to the market.


We work in small, highly cooperative and cross-functional agile teams where everyone helps each other out. You will be a part of a high performing engineering team with end-to-end ownership of the product development. We aim to be an inclusive, helpful team that executes together with a sense of ownership for the product.

Some of your key responsibilities:

· Cooperate with different teams to understand their challenges and work with them to help production models and algorithms.
· Be part of the development roadmap to build and operationalise our data science environment, platforms and tooling.
· Being a member of the Data Science team, contributing to our expanding bank of algorithms, and working with our data science infrastructure.
· Taking on DevOps responsibilities, initiating ideas and driving processes.

Who you are
We believe you have a genuine passion for data engineering, DevOps and complex problem-solving. You enjoy working in a fast-paced, international environment where you will have the opportunity to continuously grow. You thrive working independently and with colleagues in smaller teams and like the idea of working in an agile, helpful and inclusive team. You have a good understanding of your surroundings and have the ability to be proactive in your work. On top of this you probably love product-based businesses and want to be a part of a rapidly expanding Engineering team that is firing on all cylinders. We will provide you with these prerequisites.

You should have:

· Degree in Computer Science or similar field
· Experience of working with cloud technologies (preferably AWS)
· Experience building large scale data processing pipelines. e. g. Hadoop/Spark
· Good understanding of DevOps and agile software development principles
· Experience in coding in Java/Scala or Python
· Experience working in Unix environment


Skills that make you stand out:


· Experience in Apache Airflow and common CI/CD tools such as Jenkins/GoCD and Maven
· Experience with containers (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker)
· Knowledge of Databricks, S3, EC2, Sagemaker, Athena, and Glue
· Experience with best practice of data transport and storage within cloud system.
· Use of Data Science modelling tools e.g. Python, R, and Data Science notebooks (e.g. Jupyter).
