Arbetsbeskrivning
The Man Technology Environment Research Centre (MTM) at Örebro University focuses on applied research on chemical compounds of different origin in the environment and their relations to sustainable development.
We are now in the process of establishing the Environmental Forensic (EnForce) Laboratory. It is a new research effort funded by the Knowledge Foundation research profile program in collaboration with ten partners from trade and industry and the Swedish Toxicology Sciences Research Center (Swetox). The main goal of the EnForce Laboratory is to track and identify environmental pollutants with a better understanding of their effects. The objectives are to develop and apply advanced analytical methods including metabolomics, bioassay technologies and speciation for effect-directed analysis and hazard assessment of the full spectrum of toxicologically relevant anthropogenic chemicals, mixtures, transformation products and metals in the bio- and technospheres.
Environmental and biochemical research at Örebro University is continuously producing large amounts of both environmental, chemical and often high-dimensional molecular data, in a truly interdisciplinary approach. Your position will provide an indispensable infrastructure service, with the possibility to get further involved into exciting research projects yourself, in terms of data management. It is closely integrated with a similar position at the School of Medical Sciences and with the IT department at Örebro University.
Duties and responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include further development of a sustainable database infrastructure for environmental and biochemical research at Örebro University. The daily work includes database curation, documented data formatting and cleaning, data integration, and data digitalization of chemical and molecular data in a broad variety of studies. A core part of this work includes documentation and automation of data input and output procedures, as well as further developing the database concepts and implementation as an indispensable infrastructure of this research environment.
Qualifications
The person we are looking for has studied computer science on the Master of Science level (or a similar education) and has experience with open-source database management/development as well as script programming in a Linux environment. A core qualification also includes a strong programming background, optimally combined with open-source database development and/or biostatistics experiences. The position is service-oriented and therefore requires good communication skills.
Previous teaching experience within higher education, of relevance to the position, is considered an additional qualification.
Your skills should also include experience in working with chemical and biological data.
Close attention will be paid to your personal qualities, your ability to perform duties autonomously, your interpersonal skills and ability to cooperate, as well as your ability to relate to people in a way that inspires trust and confidence. We expect you to be flexible and open to change with the ability to assume a quality-conscious and responsible approach towards your duties.
At Örebro University, we expect employee-ship that is characterised by courage, responsibility, commitment and respect. Courage to be open to development and change; responsibility for one’s own performance and its quality; commitment to collaboration and to contributing to growth; as well as respect by means of a constructive attitude and a professional approach to duties and to fellow employees.
Equality
Our ambition is to create a place of work that is characterised by gender equality and diversity.
