The Data Protection Coordinator is a key role in ensuring Data Ethics by Design while enabling all our development and service operation to be data driven. By creating awareness, providing advice regarding compliance aspects of technical design and by supporting in the documentation and review of processing activities, you will contribute to our ambition to be a leading premium car brand.

What you’ll do
You will be a part of a network of several Data Protection Coordinators within Volvo Cars. Your main responsibilities will be:

•    Data protection awareness within Research & Development (R&D)
•    Advice on ensuring data protection by design / by default in R&D
•    Processing activities documentation
•    Data protection compliance checks and risk assessments
•    Drafting privacy notices, ensuring their method of communication is appropriate
•    Identify applicable law, qualification of roles under data protection law, identify which data processing agreements are necessary

Your specific area of responsibility will be car data. This means any data that is created, collected and transferred from the car to the cloud; for example, camera and other sensor data for autonomous drive, battery and charging data for the electric driveline or driver settings and preferences in the infotainment system.

Do you fit the profile?
You have a solid experience of dealing with data protection matters in a technological environment, including experience in implementing a data protection program. An internationally recognized privacy certification such as Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or similar is preferred.

You have a strong passion about protecting the privacy of each individual customer combined with a business acumen and technical knowhow that allows you to help the organization to find ways to use relevant data in a responsible way (e.g. through anonymization).

For you to fully enjoy this opportunity, we believe that you have a background in software or information technology, which allows you to guide development teams to the best solutions for data collection & processing when personal data is involved. However, candidates with a legal background may apply as well. 

You have a strong knowledge of data protection matters under EU data protection law and preferably also under California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), a good understanding of privacy transparency requirements and good communication and training skills to educate developers and managers throughout R&D on the topic. 

You have a proven ability to analyze and make recommendations, collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders and drive continuous improvements. You have a good understanding of privacy by design and how to operationalize data protection compliance, and you are also familiar with privacy enhancing techniques.
