Deputy researcher/Software developer in Computer Science

Arbetsbeskrivning

Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.

Research environment:
The faculty of technology is a creative and international knowledge centre where curiosity, creativity, companionship and utility are our guiding principles. Within the faculty of technology, the department of computer science is found, at which computer scientists and engineers are being trained in close collaboration with the industry. The department has two divisions, one in Kalmar and one in Växjö. The common denominator for research at the department can be described as development of tools and models for software development. The research is primarily carried out within five research groups with a research focus towards adaptive software systems and data science. We are now making a strategic venture on an engineering master within the field of IT and, therefore, have a need to strengthen our research and the IT disciplines. A large part of the research is tied to regional development, but there is also substantial research in collaboration with national and international collaboration partners, within both the academia and the industry.

Job description:
The primary duties involve programming tasks and assistance in the research project StaViCTA (http://cs.lnu.se/stavicta/) at the borderline between Computer Science and Natural Language Processing. Concrete programming tasks include the implementation of diverse backend components in Java, topic modeling and/or named-entity recognition components on the basis of standard libraries implemented in Python, as well as maintaining the project's text classifier infrastructure. In addition, smaller programming tasks might be assigned too.

Duration: 3 months with the possibility to extend in case more work needs to be done in the project. Extent: 100% or less if wished by the candidate. Placement in Växjö.

Qualifications:
Qualified for this position are those applicants who have completed a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent subject. Good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to communicate, written and oral in English with people in different positions, both within the University and externally.

Experience of implementing machine learning algorithms and client-server-based architectures are merits. The candidate should have solid skills and programming experience in both Java and Phython and should advance high quality standards. Priority will be given to candidates with proven experience in performing complex software development tasks following state-of-the-art software designs in a team environment.

Individual salary-setting is applied which is why salary claims should be stated in the application.
