Company Overview
Comminution Reimagined Sweden AB (“CRS”) is a dynamic start-up company developing a breakthrough new technology for the mining industry. The company is based in Gothenburg, Sweden and has an active pilot on a mine site in Northern Sweden. The company is growing its global network of industry experts and mining and manufacturing partners.
CRS was formed in 2019 to develop and commercialize a new process and technology for the crushing and milling of rock ores in the mineral processing industry (the technical name for this is comminution). The process dramatically reduces energy use and the overall environmental footprint of mining. CRS is consequently positioned to become an essential enabler in the mining industry’s transition to the green economy. The technology has been proven at a laboratory scale and the company is conducting a large pilot test programme at an operating mine in Northern Sweden. Further R&D and design work on the first full-scale demonstration machines is proceeding in parallel, with several potential business cases under evaluation. CRS was awarded a prestigious grant in 2022 to support this scale-up of its work.
Role Description
Comminution Reimagined Sweden AB (“CRS”) seeks the assistance of an experienced mechanical engineer to help the business set up its growth trajectory. We are looking for someone with at least 10 years experience in ‘design for manufacture’ and with proven team leadership skills. Ideally, this experience will be in mining and quarrying, or related heavy industries.
The Engineering Team Leader will manage the day-to-day design activities of CRS’ small design team and be the main technical liaison between CRS and our manufacturing partners and potential customers.
This will include:
Scaling up of designs for full-scale, heavy-duty service.
Moving the design effort from ‘prototypes’ to ‘design for manufacture’.
Liaising with manufacturing partners, some of whom will be producing sub-components of the mill.
Working with potential customers and their project engineers to adapt and develop the mill designs and progress projects from concept development to post-sales support.
Securing the relevant certification of the new machines and ensuring that designs meet all relevant technical and safety standards.
Supporting and actively developing a dynamic and flexible ‘can-do’ team culture characterized by an entrepreneurial ‘owner’ mindset.
Assisting with office leadership and management activities
The ideal candidate will be a graduate or postgraduate in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline (e.g. design or product development). Prior work experience in relevant fields is essential. At this stage, CRS is only able to consider applications from EU citizens or candidates with a work permit enabling employment in Sweden.
General Requirements
The successful applicant will lead a small, but dynamic engineering team working in Gothenburg and at the Pilot facility.
Our projects involve multiple contributors and partners from around the globe, which means daily use of video conferencing and requires good English verbal and written communication. The role is based in Gothenburg and will require varying amounts of travel to our test facilities and other mining sights. Our ongoing pilot program (started in 2022), will be mostly to Northern Sweden but will involve occasional travel to mine testing and potential customer sites. As the company grows, this will likely also include occasional international travel.
The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:
Strong team leadership skills, with demonstrated ability to develop and sustain a high-performing team.
Self-motivated and accustomed to managing their own and the team’s activities to deadlines.
Flexible approach to working hours, a ‘can-do’ attitude and an appreciation of the personal growth that is the reward of ‘going the extra mile’.
Strong personal values and interpersonal skills.
Comfortable operating in a typical ‘start-up’ environment:
Working in our start-up environment includes:
Be a part of building a new company.
Be willing to co-develop company systems and processes as we need them.
Be flexible and adaptable - ‘help wherever is needed’ ethos.
Thrive in an informal, flat, team-based structure rather than need formal reporting structures.
Expect and cope with regular problems and scope shifts as the development progresses.
Work in a diverse, small team spread across the globe, with an eclectic but complementary mix of problem-solving styles and approaches.
Be ready for new challenges and the personal growth that comes with overcoming the impossible!
The successful applicant will be expected to take on the day-to-day management and monitoring of the design team and take on broader responsibilities in the growing business. These include role modelling good housekeeping and safety practices, managing procurement and suppliers, and contributing to the broader company technical and business programme.
Remuneration
A competitive package is offered commensurate with experience and qualifications. There will be significant opportunities to grow with the company as the product is commercialized and the company builds a global product development and product support organization.
