Arbetsbeskrivning

Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.

Let us describe the challenge we offer
One of the most important things is sustainability and vehicle safety - no one can argue with that. Wouldn’t it be both exciting and challenging to be part of a team working with battery containment making our cars one of the safest in the world? If you are passionate about our customers’ safety, you will realize that the Traction Battery Arts within propulsion installation is the place for you to prosper! Here you play a key role, making sure that our cars meet requirements and are fire proof in all situations for our electric vehicles.

What you will do
As Design Engineer within our agile teams, you will be managing the design work of our enclosure parts and systems such as battery tray, battery lid, brackets, gaskets, thermal protective structures and joints. For this you have full support from your team colleagues and support teams for detailed design & CAE work. Keeping track of time plans, deliveries, reporting system, issue management as well as keeping a good dialogue with suppliers, manufacturing, purchase, etc. in a cross functional environment is a day to day part of the job.

We do all detail design work ourselves within our teams. It is 100% Built to Print parts and where we create all technical documents enabling our supplier base to manufacture our parts. Therefore, you will be involved in frequent meetings with our suppliers to discuss the technical solution and related issues to manufacturing and assembly. In the same way, you will be deeply involved in dialogue with manufacturing engineering and our different C-plants, as our batteries are subjected to final assembly there. In this role, there will be need for some traveling, to visit our different suppliers and vehicle plants to have a good dialogue around your parts and systems.

Since you will be working in an agile environment, you will have the opportunity to broaden your knowledge and personal skills. In your work you will have support from your agile team including Scrum Master, Product Owner and Team Manager.

Competence and experience are important, but personality and potential are key
You have a minimum bachelor’s degree within mechanics or equivalent work experience. Experience from previous detailed design work and previous experiences from the automotive industry, such as crash integrity or manufacturing knowledge, is meritorious.

Experience and/or high interest of manufacturing/production of mechanical parts like HPDC, machining, welding, die casting, sheet metal forming is also a plus. In general, a high interest of technology is seen as a good skill to possess.

As we are designing “from scratch” many times, you enjoy creating new solutions, fix tricky problems, and are being able to think outside the box and simply love to take on a good technical challenge together with your team.

As Design Engineer, you will spend many hours in discussions with different areas within Volvo Cars as well as with suppliers. That’s why we believe that you have good communication skills, are proficient in English and enjoy being in contact with a lot of people. With that said, there’s a lot to keep track of, which will be easy for you since you’re structured, organized and good with priorities.
This also contributes to you having an overall picture of the team deliveries.
