Design Engineers - New Business & Innovation, IKEA of Sweden, Älmhult

Right now we are looking for experienced Design Engineers within the areas of:
-mechanical and electromechanical engineering
-engineering experience from seating and upholstery industry

The Design Engineer will lead innovation and development of the product offer through Product Development Platforms from an engineering, quality and product requirement perspective in line with functional development plans. This by being responsible to manage the development of a project from idea to ready product - from ideation, concept generation, development and verification based on a concept created within the Product Development Platforms. The platforms cover areas such as storage, textile, comfort, table & chairs. The Design Engineer will develop new smarter assembly solutions, more comfortable furniture and functional mechanisms such as extensions, sliding door systems and hinge systems.

The Design Engineer main responsibilities are:
-Innovate and develop solutions within the Product Development Platforms project portfolio.
-Driving the engineering related work for the solutions i.e. starting with innovative conceptual design, analysis, and optimisation of the solution throughout the complete development cycle delivering ready and usable solutions quality assure engineering deliverables in the Product Development Platforms process.
-Realize innovations in tangible virtual and physical prototypes.
-Product optimization vs IKEA democratic design goals
-Verify the solution towards the product requirements during the development phase.
-Secure that the final solution is correctly specified for manufacturing and stable over process variances.

To be able to deliver in this role, the Design Engineer should have:
-Experience in working throughout the whole chain, from manufacturing to product development for mass production products.
-Experience and capability to design for manufacturing and production processes together with very good knowledge in production techniques.
-Ability to turn product concepts and ideas into mechanical engineering constructions in the form of technical drawings, CAD and 3D Models.
-Analytical and creative skills with ability to transfer knowledge, ideas and data into detailed design.
-Ability to handle large quantities of information and work with several Product Development teams and product areas in parallel.
-Ability to lead and verification and development testing including the ability to design experiments in order to verify the product in an efficient way.
-Strong ability to work in teams and make things happen through involving and engaging people.
-University degree in engineering or equivalent.
-Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

Good to have:
-Experience in Six sigma and designed experiments/design of experiment (DOE).
-Worked in product development with sheet metal stamping, plastic injection moulding and die cast.
