Our department, Volvo Group Design, relentlessly imagines, proposes and implements new and improved solutions through Design thinking. The Design Team are responsible for designing all customer facing applications such as physical products, digital experiences and services weaved into integrated class leading systems and experiences.
We now have a new opportunity within our Design Team as Design Program Manager, where you will be covering the business areas; Construction Equipment, Buses and Penta along with new business areas such as Volvo Energy.
The main task of the role is to supervise all projects and cover intake, budgeting, resource planning, coaching and continuous follow up as well as plan and follow up on design reviews and actions. You will work closely with the different Chief Designers leading the different projects, internal project partners and stakeholders. In this role you will report directly to our Design Director.
This is how you could make an impact
In this role, you will be securing that all projects and other activities are planned and executed in the best possible way, making sure the Chief Designers can focus on creative leadership and excellence in execution. You will support Chief Designers leading temporary teams of specialist designers in virtual teams throughout the entire design process within the different business areas, such as: Construction Equipment, Buses, Penta and Energy. You will also be the main point of contact and interface for everything related to project intake, resource estimates, offerings, financial follow and reporting. Other tasks within the role include:
Planning and allocation of supporting design competences like Industrial design, UX Design Color and Material, Studio Engineering etc. as well as external specialist and temporary competencies.
Regularly report out to Design Director on project intake, status of ongoing ones, financial tracking and future resources needs and financial projection in collaboration with Design Business controllers.
Planning of and note taking in Design reviews following up on decisions and actions.
Projecting future resources/competence needs and work estimates internally Design for headcount and outsourcing needs and possibilities.
Main contact with key PMs within Business areas projects, Group Trucks Technology and Volvo Group Brand.
You are basically the timekeeper waving the flag of structure and have a sense of urgency to secure that the Design Team and its projects are in best possible shape with the highest possible delivery precision. Is this you?

You have a natural ability to communicate plans, progress and summaries verbally, visually and through designated internal tools. You are curious and daring to always ask the important questions ensuring that everything affecting performance of projects and deliverables are uncovered and secured as early as possible. We believe that you bring a versatile and flexible mindset while being proactive, constructive and delivery oriented. You are also curious and excited to work with multiple Volvo Group Business areas and thrive in cross functional fora’s. Other qualifications for the role are:
Understanding of and curious to learn of the design discipline, process and organization.
Fluent in Excel, Miro, Powerpoint, Teams Planner and Figma (Bonus).
Fluent, or at least good understanding, of Jira and Confluence tools.
Secure a smooth working process towards agile release trains and other external stakeholders.
Solid networker and daring to raise flags from a timing, workload and cost perspective.
Preferably, but not necessarily, familiar with Volvo Group for networks, processes and tools.
The role is based in Gothenburg, Sweden at Volvo Group Design in Lundby.
You will be reporting directly to the Design Director and be part of a team of Chief Designers
