ESS invites applications for a Detector Integration Coordinator for the Detector Service Section at the ESS headquarters in Lund. The Detector Service Section is part of the Detector Group and during the construction phase of ESS, the Detector Group is responsible for ensuring successful construction, installation and integration of detectors for all fifteen neutron instruments. The Detector Group has an active development and construction programme that is time critical for successful completion of the ESS project.
Job description
The successful candidate will carry out computing development and duties for the detector group in general. Additionally, the candidate will play a central role in the integration of the detector slow control into the ESS environment, and be the link and contact person to Data Management Software Center (DMSC) as well as the integrated control systems for the detector slow control.
The responsibilities include a range of varied tasks, some technical (software and hardware), some hands-on work for the space setup in the workshops as required, as well as helping with the coordination of these facilities as determined by the workshop officer.
There will be also a few scientific and detector development representation tasks. The candidate will work together with neutron expert technicians, detector scientists and mechanical engineers who need these facilities to construct several demonstrators and final detectors for half of the ESS instruments.

Qualifications:
We are looking for a self-motivated person, with practical experience in technical workshops and, ideally, building detector demonstrators or similar devices. In particular, we are seeking knowledge, skills and competence on the following:
• Masters or bachelor in electronic engineering, electronics physics,or similar.
• Knowledge of C++, Python or bash is a requirement.
• Knowledge of control systems software, such as EPICS, would be an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and electronics systems.
• Aptitude to obtain more knowledge of the technologies applied to instrumentation.
• Experience with detector technology, especially neutron detectors, will be an advantage
• This position requires a team player with excellent communication skills (conversation and writing levels) in English. Swedish and other European languages is an advantage.
• Candidates should have a record of individual accomplishment and also have demonstrated the ability work productively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Previous experience at a major national or international laboratory is an advantage.

• A precise person, attentive to detail, striving for the upmost quality, always looking to refine methods and techniques to improve the deliverable.
• Able to multi-task and to work to deadlines.
• Able to adapt to new challenges and to develop novel solutions.
• Proven self-motivation and initiative as the facilities are located in a separate building to the main offices.
• Committed to working in a safe way and complying with all safety regulations and best practice.
• Ability to work on your own as well as to be a team player offering your technical advice when required.
As a person, you must be a good listener and creative to solve technical problems. You must be flexible in your approach to work and prepared to tackle a very wide range of tasks in order to ensure successful and timely delivery. You must be a hands-on person, strongly motivated by the desire to deliver on time and determined to ensure the delivery of the detector electronics.
