Cultivation Unit
Under the university board and the Vice-Chancellor, SLU's research and education activities are organized in four faculties. The Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Science (LTV) is one of them, largely located in Alnarp. Campus Alnarp has infrastructure of various kinds, where the biotron – which since 2016 offers cultivation opportunities in a controlled environment – is one of the newest and most advanced.
Duties:
In the role of development manager for the biotron, you will have a central role in making the best use of the facility. Even such a new facility as the biotron needs to be developed to meet the needs that arise as cutting-edge research constantly requires solutions to find answers to new questions. The position is thus about finding ways forward in dialogue with users – researchers, teachers and also external stakeholders – to develop the biotron in an effective way. This includes providing support to users, for example in experimental and advanced plant science issues combined with the facility’s technical possibilities. You will work closely with the research engineer at the biotron, who is primarily responsible for day-to-day operations. Another important task is to get an overview of current possibilities to use the facility, ant to continuously update yourself on new such possibilities. As a development manager, you are also an important decision support for the biotron's steering group and the operations manager for the cultivation unit at the faculty. The research officer at the LTV Faculty is also an important partner.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a person with a doctoral degree in a subject area relevant to the position, e.g. horticultural or agricultural science, biology, environmental science, sustainable development, etc. You have good technical knowledge, a good analytical ability, a system thinking and are passionate about research and education. Work experience within a relevant field after doctoral degree as well as experience in writing applications for research funding is meritorious. Good knowledge of English is a requirement. As a person, you are outgoing and enjoy working individually as well as being part of a working group. You can easily communicate and collaborate with others; it is important that you can communicate new technologies towards researchers and other users. The duties require you to be proactive, self-motivated and service-oriented. You are also solution and result oriented. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
