Background
Volvo Autonomous Solutions (V.A.S.) is one of the newer entities within the Volvo Group with the mission to offer transport solutions never seen before. We accelerate the development, commercialization and sales of autonomous transport solutions, focusing on defined segments for the on- and off-road space. With entirely new business models and advanced technology, we will meet and exceed expectations from customers and contributing to a society that we want to live in.
The Concept Vehicle Lab takes part in all phases of those transport solutions, from the early specification and development throughout the maintenance and quality stages in customer operation. Inspired by the autonomous vehicles in our lab, we now aim to improve the automation of our mechanical workshop with this thesis work.
Aim
The purpose of this thesis is to design, build and certify a robot arm for a blasting cell already installed in the mechanical lab. Cool, right?
Scope
Research existing solutions and identify the most suitable design for the blasting system in our lab.
Design, build and program the robotic arm according to Volvo Standards for internally develop equipment and CE-marking.
Verify the system and evaluate performance.
Student Profile
We are looking for either Bachelor or Master’s degree students in Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering with a genuine interest in practicing mechanical tasks. You preferably have experience in programming microcontrollers or PLC. You are fluent in English, both written and spoken
Duration/Status
• Period: 1 semester, 30 hp credits
• Starting date: January 2023
• Number of students: Suitable for 1-2 students
• The building and installation of the robot arm will happen at Volvo Autonomous Solutions Concept Vehicle Lab (in Camp X)
