The time is now to work in the automotive industry. Apply yourself to the challenge of truly sustainable transport!
Scania is transforming from being a supplier of trucks, buses, and engines to a complete and sustainable transport solutions supplier.
With the Paris Agreement stating a climate goal of zero emissions by 2050, Scania is taking up the challenge of decarbonizing our transport system, and developing new technology and new business models. Electrification is a key part of this transformation, where Scania set the target of having 50 % of our fleet electrified by 2030.
About us:
At Propulsion Development at R&D, we develop the next generation of electrified and conventional power trains, providing superior propulsion solutions for a truly sustainable future.
You will be part of the group UPBG Gears, Shafts and Planetary at transmission development consisting of design and test engineers, object leaders, and product owners.
Our task is to design and test high-performance components and parts ensuring best-in-class gearboxes for efficient, durable and reliable power trains, working with a sustainable, customer-centric, and exploring approach.
Our culture:
We are a mixed group in terms of experience; some have worked for more than twenty years in the field, and others for one year. Together the group holds a lot of knowledge and expertise and we promote a helpful, inclusive and supportive working environment. Discussions, troubleshooting, and analysis are part of our daily work. No questions are too small and we learn together as we apply ourselves to new challenges.
About the role:
We think you are someone who has experience in design and wants to expand your area of expertise where you can delve into the development of the product. If you fearlessly take on complex problems and like to take your initiatives with support from colleagues and experts, this is a role for you. We think you are curious, problem-solving and driven to deliver results in a developing area.
As a development/design engineer at UPBG, you are part of our innovative team at the forefront of the electrification journey and within the next-generation conventional powertrain. You will be responsible for hardware parts and tasked to design, create drawings, define investigations for simulation and testing, and follow up results to iteratively develop our designs. You will communicate with the assembly, machining, suppliers, or sourcing department at Scania.
The design of rotating seals is of particular interest. You will take lead in this exploration to become our local expert and increase our team and department’s proficiency and competence within this technical area. In your role, you will apply a holistic design approach ranging from concepts to verification, and when needed perform deeper investigations into aspects such as geometry and function, tolerances, mounting, material and surface structure to develop our design solutions. You will grow your expertise to act as support in our department for technical questions within the area.
As part of our team, you will follow the hardware development from the drawing table to finalized product, ensuring that the end product meets the customer targets.
Requirements for the role:
• An engineering or master's degree in mechanical engineering, materials technology, vehicle technology or similar.
• 2-5 years of experience working as a design engineer.
• Knowledge of CATIA V5 or similar CAD tools is required.
Meritorious skills and knowledge include:
• Planetary or gearbox construction and design
• Rotating seals
• Tribology
• Tolerance chain analysis
• Knowledge of drawing standards
We offer:
A great work environment with driven colleagues, great development opportunities, large freedom with responsibilities, a possibility to
work from home up to 50%, a performance bonus and a wellness allowance.
