Electrification is a key part of this transformation, with a goal of 50% of our vehicle sales volumes to be electrified by 2030, and the development of the traction battery is a crucial part of the electrification effort.

Materials Technology’s goals with respect to battery development are to provide industry-leading expertise in battery chemistry and battery material analysis to our internal customers spanning the complete product development cycle, from basic research to ensuring quality of vehicles in service.

You will be part of the electrification group within Materials Technology R&D. The group consist currently of 10 experienced research engineers. Our task is to supply Scania with technical expertise on materials for electrification.

Your main tasks

The battery team at Materials Technology is responsible for providing battery materials and chemistry expertise and carrying out post mortem cell and battery material analysis (cell teardown), as part of research projects, product development, field quality issues, production methods, and safety and work environment. We have an ambition to build world-class competence in battery materials and degradation processes as well as contribute to the internationally-recognised battery research community in Sweden.

Your Profile

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A strong track record of experience working with lithium-ion batteries and their materials, as well as a broad understanding of current research and trends in the field is necessary. 

Meritorious skills and knowledge include:


• Knowledge and experience of applied electrochemical and chemical analysis methods relevant to lithium-ion batteries
• Knowledge and experience of battery modelling methods
• Knowledge and experience of software languages such as Python, Matlab, R, Julia
• Documented experience of academic supervision, e.g. of Masters or PhD students
• Good communication skills in written and spoken Swedish
