The Science Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Development Engineer, Neutron Choppers.

Description of directorate/division
The neutron chopper group is part of the neutron technologies division and dedicated to providing and supporting key components required for the construction and operation of the facilities scientific instruments. The group will compose 8-10 engineers and technicians, jointly responsible for design supply and upkeep of the neutron choppers systems throughout the facility. The group's activities will be conducted in two new facilities; the Chopper development laboratory and the Chopper operational facility.

Main responsibilities
As a Development Engineer, Neutron Choppers, you will have the responsibility for conducting research and development initiatives in the field of neutron choppers for the scientific instruments of the ESS, and participate in the elaboration of strategies, techniques and methods to ensure systems performance, reliability and cost. You will participate in defining equipment requirements and the production of technical specifications for neutron choppers systems and test equipment. Further more, you will also be involved in the procurement of prototype chopper systems and sub assemblies, and the integration and testing of components and systems.

In addition, you will assume responsibility for conducting small project teams of engineers and technicians, from both internal and external resources, in the course of executing technology development projects.

Qualifications
To be successful in this position you know how to apply your expertise and technology skills practically, you can decide and initiate actions and deliver results while meeting customer expectations. You are analytical, learning and researching and can cope with occasional high pressure and setbacks.

You have a Degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering and 10 years of experience in an engineering development environment with mechanical and electromechanical systems. You have demonstrated expertise in developing machine control systems & software and are familiar with manufacturing in the context of prototype development.

Previous experience in leading small teams of engineers and technicians in developing customized products is highly merited, as is experience in the organizing and day-to-day running of small laboratories or workshops. Experience of working in an international environment is essential and we expect you to be fluent in written and spoken English.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible
