Get to know us!
The department Battery & Charging Controls is responsible for the development of major parts of hybrid and electric vehicle systems at Volvo Cars. The group Charging Software is responsible for delivering software functionality, in regards of actual software deliveries, but also diagnostics functionality, for the on-board charger (OBC) and the DCDCs in our electrified vehicles.
The on-board charger (OBC) is essential for electrified vehicles, it holds the functionality to charge the traction battery from the grid, and it is for sure of highest importance in a pure electric vehicle. The DCDCs converts energy from the traction battery to supply the low voltage system.

Our vision is to deliver the best functionality in the market for Charging Software functionality and diagnostics and to continuously evolve our way of working. We strive for a more modular platform that is suitable for our vision of continuous integration/deployment and with a higher focus on the product. For diagnostic our vision is also to be even more connected/integrated into the functionality and to increase the availability of the OBC and DCDCs.

What will you do?
As a Diagnostic Engineer you will be a part of an agile team and work side-by-side with Analysis and Verification engineers for diagnostics.
You need to take an active part in how the design for the diagnostics should be since you will be the bridge between system design and diagnostics implementation. Your main responsibility is requirement engineering and to ensure a proper implementation. This is realized by breaking down top-level requirements, assess/analyse the system from a diagnostic perspective, participate in creation of System-FMEA, and write requirements that will be deployed to both supplier and the inhouse Software-team.  You need to review the feasibility in supplier/inhouse strategy of diagnostic implementation, as well as follow up on the implementation status, documentation and the traceability. Another part is that you also need to add/update the diagnostic data in the Volvo cars database.

The reliability and the quality of our products from the field will be analysed and you will gain an understanding of the robustness of the diagnostics monitors, as well as the status of the vehicles.
You also need to participate in the strategy in how we can gain more information about what’s happening and especially how we can be more proactive in the case that the charging does not work at some specific charging stations so that correct actions can be made.

Lastly, you will also participate as a technical expert in the verification and validation test activities.

Do you fit the profile?
We believe that you have at least a B. Sc. degree within engineering, preferably power electronics, embedded system or equivalent competence. On top on this, you have some years’ experience in the automotive industry and have worked within the diagnostic area and embedded system development before. We are a global company so a must for us is that you are fluent in English. Also you should have a driving license (B), preferably you love cars as much as we do!

This is what you need to have. But we also have a few things that is nice to have! If you also have any of the following skills, we consider it to be meritorious:

* Experience of diagnostic events, and the configuration of them
* Experience of AUTOSAR diagnostic modules and bootloaders
* Knowledge about ISO 14229 /ISO 15765 (UDS services and communication)
* Knowledge about OBDII and other emission related legal regulation & requirements
* Knowledge and understanding of simple HW-circuits
* Knowledge of working with system design/system solution and FMEA

In this role, you need to be structured, data driven and have good documentation skill. You are also used to corporate and communicate with people both internally at Volvo and also at supplier side since this is a large part of the role. Other traits that we appreciate is integrity, courage and energy.
