Digital Research Engineer - focus on Scientific Visualisation/InfraVis

Arbetsbeskrivning

This advertisement is part of a concerted action where Chalmers e-Commons is hiring six co-workers. More information on this strategic initiative and the mode of working within Chalmers e-commons is found here.

Digital Research Engineers at Chalmers e-Commons
The Digital Research Engineers form a team that provide the primary contact between Chalmers e-Commons and individual researchers, research groups and larger research collaborations and infrastructures. The team of Engineers support research by providing expertise on practical use of large-scale computational and data management resources and advancing the state-of-the-art in selected collaborative projects where research software is developed and used. Here, the Digital Research Engineers work closely with both the researchers and with the e-infrastructure experts in e-Commons. For clusters of problem areas, the Digital Research Engineers build, coordinate and further develop networks of Chalmers experts on digitally supported research. The Engineers also provide advise on which e-infrastructure resources and services - locally, nationally or internationally - that could be most suitable for specific research efforts.

Chalmers e-Commons is working actively with consolidating the notion of Digital Research Engineers as partners for bridging the gap between advanced e-infrastructure resources and the needs of research to solve increasingly more complex problems. Here, e-Commons will participate actively the international
development and work with e.g. merits and career planning.

The National Research Infrastructure InfraVis
The employment presented in this advertisement has a focus on Scientific Visualisation within the National Resarch Infrastructure InfraVis. Infravis is a long-term effort funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) and nine Swedish partner universities, in support of scientific advancement through the application of state-of-the-art data analysis and visualization techniques. The goals of InfraVis are to significantly improve data analysis support, address new challenges involving large and complex data and create competitive advantages for Swedish researchers. The infrastructure consists of visualization experts working with various software solutions and access to high-end visualization laboratories. Users of InfraVis are offered assistance through a national helpdesk with rapid response times as well as in-depth projects addressing specific data and software challenges. InfraVis also provides software solutions based on development in connected research groups, curation of international software and best practise, and user training in the form of courses, seminars and on-line documentation. To build an infrastructure with national coverage, we have pooled together nine visualization environments in Sweden interconnected in a nodal structure. The nodes are hosted in proximity to research environments in visualization, which will enable direct access to the research front as well as to state-of-art facilities.
