The Data Science and Modelling department within Pharmaceutical Sciences is developing a digital transformation strategy to drive innovation, optimization of the drug development process and data-driven decision making.



The role

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Director role to lead one of our data science teams based in Gothenburg, Sweden. With employees from more than 50 countries, our site is a truly inspiring place to work!

In this role you will be responsible for line management of 5 -10 data scientists, including performance management and professional development activities. You will get the opportunity to work with a group of highly skilled and experienced data scientists with expertise in applying data driven modelling and mechanistic driven models to accelerate our development of formulated drug products. This role is of strategic importance to the department. You will be engaging with key internal and external stakeholders to identify and validate impactful solutions to provide scientific leadership and drive innovation. You will simply be at the forefront of the digital transformation within AstraZeneca turning ideas into life changing medicines for patients!



Typical responsibilities in this role

Coach direct reports for enhanced performance, team and individual development on an ongoing basis
*

Lead the implementation of new practices that enable the group to achieve flexibility, efficiency and delivery
*

Ensure the delivery of the project portfolio within their area
*

Identify new opportunities to apply innovative data science solutions across Pharmaceutical Sciences
*

Deliver data science and computational support to drug projects
*

Maintain and develop own scientific profile internally and externally
*

Ensure efficient collaboration across teams within the Data science and Modelling department



Do you have the essential qualifications for these roles?

*

PhD in computational- chemistry, material science, pharmacy or equivalent
*

Excellent track record of leading line organisations or leading projects in the pharmaceutical industry or similar industries
*

Track record of applying molecular modelling and data driven models to material science and formulation related problems
*

Proven experience of using machine learning to build predictive models
*

Experience from applying knowledge graphs, natural language processing and deep learning models to materials science and formulation problems
*

Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
*

Self-motivated
*

Team player
