Save the Children Sweden fights for children's rights. The organisation works with advocacy for children's rights and support vulnerable children in Sweden and worldwide. We are now seeking an interim Director for the Child Protection Initiative (CPI) Duty station: Sundbyberg, near Stockholm The assignment period: As soon as possible until December 31, 2009. The Director reports to the Chair of the Child Protection Steering Group, the deputy Secretary General at SCS Head Office in Sundbyberg, near Stockholm, Sweden. Specific Duties and Responsibilities * Long term strategic planning, follow-up and development of the International Save the Children Alliance Programme at global level, liaising with donors and cooperating with local partners; * Manage and implement the International Save the Children Alliance' child protection business plan and it's operational plan. * Develop and promote efficient coordination and sustainable programs on child protection that meet Save the Children's quality standards and donor needs. * Establish an environment throughout the Alliance wherein Members can grow in national presence and influence and strengthen overall organizational capacity in home market fundraising, public relations and advocacy. * Increase Member domestic preparedness and Member resources dedicated to chld protection. * Oversee the activities of Members engaged in strengthening capacity in child protection related activities. * Chair regular meetings of the Child Protection Initiative Task Group. * Prepare and submit annual plans and budgets to the Steering Group for approval. * Develop and promote clear objectives and monitoring and evaluation systems. * Ensure coordination with Alliance Key Challenges. * Ensure lessons learnt are incorporated in planning. * Report progress to Steering Group to include evaluation of Member progress toward meeting agreed goals. * Ensure update information is provided to Members as appropriate. Required Qualifications * Law and Masters degree in development and 10 years of working experience within the area of international development, child rights and child protection. * Experience from working with international organizations and the UN at Head Office levels. * Genuine interest in networking with other organizations and developing good relations. * Experience of management and chief executive leadership roles. * Ability to plan according to overall strategies and organize work. * Fluency in English both verbal and written. * Experience of international advocacy in places like New York or Geneva will be an advantage. * Readiness for frequent travelling.
