The Director, International Editorial Content and Strategic Communications will work within the PayPal Global Content, Communications and Engagement team and across Corporate Affairs, Employee Communication and Marketing teams to innovate the way we engage with our audience.
The successful candidate is a leader who is knowledgeable of brand strategy, brand newsrooms, media consumption patterns, understands new technologies, as well as creates editorial content that drives news cycles, media conversation and engagement. The Director, International Editorial Content and Strategic Communications will help institutionalize content publishing as a core engine of our communications mix.
Reporting to the Global Head of Content Creation and Innovation and based in our iZettle office in Stockholm, the Director, International Editorial Content and Strategic Communications will help lead brand campaigns that tell our global company narrative through storytelling to our target audiences. This role is considered the international expert on content strategy, planning, execution and measurement and will work cross-functionally with our global teams including, lead content publisher relationships and engage with local media to understand the content landscape of their channels and publication. In addition, the role will work to help socialize employee and corporate stories externally and help set the strategy for partnerships with journalists and digital content platforms.
Responsibilities
Working in tandem with global Product & Partnership Communications, lead cross-functional team to develop and lead integrated communications strategy and plans that solve for the new in-person pay and in-store narratives, inclusive of the Small Business solutions such as iZettle, PayPal Merchant Debit Card and Invoicing, for an array of different objectives; awareness and improving understanding and consideration.
Responsible for creating, driving and managing the thought leader platform and strategic communications program for the Small Business product line. Lead creation and delivery of compelling, original, strategy-led executive-level content for internal and external audiences and acting as a primary liaison to relevant executive leaders on behalf of the broader Corporate Affairs function.
Develop, deliver and lead the International Editorial Content plan to tell our company narrative, bringing products to market and showing not telling stories of our culture at PayPal.
Develop ideas that will work across all channels: Earned (traditional earned media), Owned (newsroom, web, collateral), Paid (primarily opt-in placements and influencers) and Shared (social media channels).
You will leverage all channels to define the content roadmap:
The content journey for the target audience
The content needed for every phase of the journey
The optimal channels for the content
The global applicability of the content
Look for and find ways to connect content to our PayPal Newsroom with announcements and company thought leadership.
Collaborate with the Corporate Social Media team on channel planning and content amplification.
The successful candidate will need to take a brief, conceptualize an idea, work closely with an integrated team to develop an editorial idea, budget it and successfully demonstrate how it will work within a brand campaign.
This will be done working closely with local country communication leaders:
Be the expert in owned channels, while at the same time look for and advise on new avenues to share and amplify compelling content.
Ensure the strategy is effectively executed through agency partners and internal teams and resources.
Take the lead with team members to ensure final assets consistently answer the brief in terms of audience and brand requirements.
You will also work closely with the PayPal Marketing teams on strategies and initiatives to ensure all of our work is aligned.
Participate in team meetings, providing input and opinion into the future direction of the editorial and storytelling part of our business and taking on actions and tasks as required to help the business achieve its future objectives.
This role is responsible for setting a plan that builds our brand reputation with media and must always be helping to identify risks and opportunities and contribute to development of short-and long-term strategies.
Job Requirements
10+ years of editorial marketing and/or Public Relations agency experience
Leadership skills with experience in change management
International orientation - experience from working in different regions.
Highly collaborative and comfortable networking with internal stakeholders, external influencers such as journalists.
Entrepreneurial mindset – thinks creatively and outside the box.
Excellent written and verbal communicator, with a strong attention to detail.
Some travel to around Europe and to the US from time to time
Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in law, business administration or related field preferred.
