PerkinElmer is opening Director R&D position for Vanadis part of the business
Location: Stockholm/ Sollentuna
Role Summary:
The Director R&D leads research and development for the Vanadis product line in PerkinElmer’s Diagnostics Segment. In close alignment with the VP & General Manager of Vanadis, this leader drives the development of a vital product pipeline which meets customers’ needs. Leadership responsibilities for the Director of R&D includes the planning, budgeting & execution of NPIs, sustaining, and technology development projects, as well as in providing technology support to adjacent functions and will perform the function required as the Sollentuna Site Leader. The Director of R&D leads a growing team of multi-disciplinary R&D resources comprising of sub-teams supporting Advanced Research, Reagents, Instruments & Systems, and Software. While most of the team sits co-located within the Sollentuna site location. This leader will work closely with global teammates to drive the overall growth of this segment within PerkinElmer.
Responsibilities:
· Participates as part of the Vanadis segment strategic leadership team. Execute on new product requirements defined by product management and sales regions.
· In collaboration with business leadership, he/she will define the product roadmap for the Vanadis portfolio and conceive new product ideas based on technical and scientific advancements in the field. Identify new applications for existing technologies. Contribute at a technical level to multiple NPI programs simultaneously
· Drive internal and external technical innovation and collaboration. Deliver innovative products that meet & exceed customer needs. Understand the capabilities of PerkinElmer outside of Vanadis so that those can be utilized for Vanadis customers, where appropriate
· Manage the development of new products in the shortest possible timeline. Ensure on-time and on-budget execution of product development projects
· Drive customer 1st mindset for all product & solution developments. Implement processes to monitor performance of products on the market. Proactively identify performance variations and interventions. Support existing customers in advanced analysis of system performance & troubleshooting
· Support manufacturing needs – customer fulfillment, improved quality, supplier qualifications, cost reductions, etc.
· Implement changes to improve R&D productivity and reduce time-to-market
· Enable competitive product evaluations & assessments as needed for the product lines
· The Director R&D works cross-functionally and interacts globally with all business functions including product management, marketing, sales, service, operations, finance, and business-development in support of the new products.
· Ability to aggressively prioritize based on funding constraints, including stopping projects that fail to progress through feasibility milestones
· Academic advancement: Develop & implement academic studies for existing & new products in support of business goals. Assist customers in publishing their data on the Vanadis platform
· Hire, mentor, coach and develop R&D team leaders and staff. Create a workplace culture that supports an employees’ engagement and retention
· Expand core domain competencies, with a focus on Reagent
Requirements for the role:
· Advanced degree in science in Molecular Biology.
· 5 + years’ experience in Diagnostics applications with experience launching and developing IVD or RUO Assays
· 5 + years’ experience in R&D leadership, program, or project management of complex systems involving Reagents, Instrumentation and Software
Desired skills and background:
· PhD
· Strong communicator. Strong written & verbal communication skills in Swedish & English. Finnish beneficial. Ability to interact and engage across leadership teams within the function and beyond.
· Experience in the start-up world, and ready to be part of a large company
· Experience developing & launching at least 10 IVD & RUO assays with annual revenues of at least $100M
· Experience with liquid handling robot platforms for at least 5 years
· Experience writing and publishing at least 5 first author research papers
· Experience giving at least 10 platform presentations at professional society symposia
· Experience working with clinical molecular laboratories
· Deep knowledge of cell-free DNA field
· Deep knowledge of rolling circle replication technology
