DIS Stockholm Academic Assistant
15 months internship
1 June 2022 to 31 August 2023
Job description
In your Role as Academic Assistant, you will be affiliated with Academics (ACAD) at DIS Stockholm. You will refer to the Associate Academic Director.
Main objectives of the Academic Assistant position:
enhance your knowledge and obtain practical skills within operations and service of a study abroad program
provide support/communications/training within the academic programs, including research
develop intercultural communication skills
manage short-term projects, including day-to-day processes

Office Assistant tasks:
Academics office management
o Proofread and check syllabi and field study information
o Assist and support workshops, training, and orientations for new and returning faculty
o Plan, assist and support arrival/academic orientation for semester and summer students
o Assist in planning and hosting academic seminars and end-of-semester showcases
o Support and lead research workshops for students
o Collect data on the DIS research program and prepare results for dissemination
o Document academic events, including photos and press, and create DISco posts (DIS Intranet)
o Provide Canvas (learning platform) support for students and faculty
o Serve as co-leader for core course week and study tour travel
o Proctor exams, as needed
o Assist in gift purchases for field study/study tour needs
o Help to organize faculty/staff fika
o Edit/fact-check study tour booklets, as needed
o Organize and maintain DIS library, including book pick-up/drop-off
o Other projects, as required
Collaborative DIS assistance
o Assist with the preparation and execution of DIS events (Homestay Orientations, tours of DIS, Academic Seminar Nights, Faculty Workshops, Research Student Workshops) both during and outside normal office hours
o Twice a year, help with the International Educator's Workshop in various capacities (organizing student panels, packing arrival bags, staffing the information desk, housing tours)
o Take meeting notes and help run errands
Work rhythm of the internship
The workload is typically very heavy during the following months: January, May, June, August, and early December.

DIS Stockholm is a growing office with 8 full-time staff, who cover the full range of DIS services, together with 50+ faculty, of whom 3 are full-time.
DIS Stockholm welcomes approximately 150 students from US colleges and universities every semester - in addition to four summer sessions and custom programs - and offers 12 core courses and over 50 electives. As we are a relatively small office, we have fostered a culture of teamwork, collaborating across department lines.
