Mid Sweden University, at the Department of Engineering and Sustainable Development, is seeking applicants for the following post Doctoral student Ecotechnology and Environmental Science Ref.No.MIUN 2009/382 Job description: Productivity of Swedish forests can be considerably improved through intensified management practices.An increased use of wood material can help mitigate climate change, for example, through its use as a building frame material to substitute traditional material in multi-storey buildings.However, it is likely that there will be varying opinions and apprehensions among stakeholders to adopt such innovations.Introduction of new forest management practices or wood building methods, akin to many innovations, is likely to be associated with risks, changed routines, demand for new knowledge and capital.A new practice or product will be adopted if the stakeholders are convinced of the advantages of such an innovation.The successful candidate will undertake social surveys to investigate the knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of the general public and the forest owners about new forest management practices.The candidate will also carry out surveys of property owners, builders, engineers and architects to understand their attitude towards wood as a construction material. Conditions for employment: This is full time position (100%).Duties should begin as soon as possible.The position is linked to a registration as PhD student in Ecotechnology and Environmental Science at Mid Sweden University.Monthly salary: SEK 21,200 (approximately EUR 2000) Qualification requirements: Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree of at least 120 credits including specialization of at least 60 credits in Ecotechnology and Environmental Science or related subjects.A master's degree in the field of environmental science, forestry or social sciences is a significant merit.Experience with social surveys and statistical analysis is an asset.Candidates should have good knowledge of English.The post is stationed in Östersund, Sweden.In the interest of gender equality Mid Sweden University aims to employ an equal number of men and women.Hence, women are particularly encouraged to apply for the above post.
