Doctoral student in information technology

Arbetsbeskrivning

Doctoral student in information technology, signals and systems engineering, with focus on data mining

The position is co-funded by Getinge Group AB and CAISR (Center for Applied Intelligent Systems Research, a long-term research program on intelligent systems at the School of Information Technology).

More information about CAISR is to be found at http://www.hh.se/caisr and http://caisr.hh.se/

The focus of the CAISR centre is on aware intelligent systems, computer systems that are human aware, situation aware and to some extent “self-aware". This means systems that can communicate with humans, systems that can be aware of human intentions, systems that can fuse information and be aware of the situation and not just individual sensor readings, and systems that can be self-monitoring. The subject expertise in the centre is in machine learning, data mining, signal analysis and mechatronics.

Getinge Group is a leading global provider of equipment and systems that contribute to quality enhancement and cost efficiency within healthcare and life sciences, and has installed equipment in over hundred countries and is the world's leading provider of sterilizers. It's our vision that instruments are always ready for use when needed, so we create maintenance plan that fits your workflows, minimizes your downtime, controls your costs, and keeps your equipment operating at peak performance.

Principal duties
The successful candidate will work on machine learning-based methods for analysing streaming time-series data and detecting deviations by comparing one individual against a group of similar, but not identical systems. Those methods will be applied to the data from several different types of sterilisers, comparing different knowledge representations, in particular models that are general and models that build on the expert knowledge about the specifics of design and operation of sterilisers.

The project will entail developing novel methods and algorithms for combining information, often uncertain, coming from different sources, discovering interesting relations in the available data, evaluating their usefulness, and finally exploiting resulting algorithms to improve reliability and maintenance operations for sterilisers. The research will be performed in close collaboration with our industrial partners.

The successful candidate will also be expected to carry out some teaching and administrative tasks within the school.

Qualifications
The position is intended for someone with a master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related fields. Candidates are expected to demonstrate interests and expertise in machine learning, data mining, and signal processing. Other desirable skills include programming, critical thinking, math literacy, creative thinking and good communication abilities.

Salary
Doctoral students are employees of the University and paid a salary according to a uniform salary scale, adjusted in relation to the progress in education and the first step is SEK 25 000 before taxes. The position includes doctoral studies up to doctoral degree and is annually extended in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5, §7.
