The School of Engineering is one of four schools within Jönköping University. The department of Construction Engineering and Lighting Science offers graduate and post-graduate education.
The department has an active research environment with research focusing on knowledge intensive product realization and digitalization (Building Information Modelling, BIM) with a strong focus on the interaction between humans and (lighting/building) products. In our efforts to become a national hub for lighting research we are currently looking for a PhD candidate for the first phase of the project (Licentiate, 3 years).
The goal of the project is to improve the use of energy-efficient smart lighting systems in a Swedish residential setting by integration of daylight and the location of sensory systems that satisfy social, economic, and environmental values to support comfortable and acceptable functioning and further development of a smart and efficient (lighting) energy system. As validation is executed in a laboratory setting, practical input from users and conscious/unconscious usage are incorporated in the application and positioning of sensory systems.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a doctoral student, the focus of your work will be research execution combined with a research education in a third-cycle education program. The third-cycle subject area for admission is 'Machine Design' within the Graduate School in Industrial Product Realization at the School of Engineering, Jönköping University.
To a limited extent, you will get opportunities to participate in teaching on first- and second-cycle education courses, or administration. This should not exceed 20 percent of full-time work.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A person meets the general entry requirements for third-cycle program at the JU School of Engineering if he or she:
- has been awarded a second-cycle qualification;
- has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second-cycle, or has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
To be an ideal candidate for this PhD-position you are required to have knowledge on lighting (design), and you are eager to execute experimental (field) work including human behavior and perception.
Your planning, analysis, and writing skills demonstrate that you are a critical person with an eye for detail and accuracy. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, inquisitive, and analytical in nature. You have an ability to turn visions and ideas into practical working procedures and methods.
You are systematic in your approach and are stimulated by cooperation as well as taking great responsibility and reaching your goals. You are reflective about your work and communicative with your colleagues
Your communication skills in the English language are good and you can articulate yourself clearly both orally and in writing. Knowledge of the Swedish language is meritorious but an advantage as part of the research will involve Swedish-speaking residents/ participants.
It is also meritorious to be experienced in working with sensory and lighting control systems as well as possessing the knowledge and skills regarding programming of lighting installations and (energy) data analysis. Knowledge regarding the Swedish (and global) light and building industry is also a merit.
