Arbetsbeskrivning
Örebro University is a modern and prominent broad-based university with the courage to review and the ability to evolve. Our professional degree programmes are among the best in the country and we endeavour to be an attractive place of work where members of staff feel a sense of pride and satisfaction. 1,300 employees and 15,000 students come to work and study at Örebro University.
Doctoral student in medical science, in the field of psychiatric epidemiology at the school of Health and medical science
Örebro University is currently offering research study opportunities on the programme specified above. For the successful candidate, the programme will conclude with the award of the Degree of Doctor.
In contrast to the established impact of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ADHD on patients, families and society there is a fundamental lack of knowledge about true environmental and genetic causes of the disorder. There are also major concerns regarding the efficacy of non-pharmacological ADHD interventions. The overall objective of this research program is to understand how genes and environments influence developmental trajectories and long-term outcomes of ADHD and to identify the benefits associated with ADHD treatment interventions.
The work is expected to be at the international frontline and help clarify outstanding questions related to the epidemiology of ADHD. The proposed studies are based on large ADHD cohorts identified from national health registers, the Swedish twin register and clinical cohorts. These datasets contain detailed information about ADHD and comorbid conditions, prospective measures of environmental risks, high throughput genotyping, longitudinal information about prescribed ADHD medications and assessments of serious medical (cardiovascular, neurological, and psychiatric problems) and functional outcomes (academic and occupational).
Henrik Larsson research group has established strong links with national (Karolinska Institutet) and international (IMPACT, EUNETHYDIS) research networks with a focus on genetic epidemiology, psychiatric epidemiology and on ADHD research in general. The doctoral student is expected to collaborate close with these national and international collaborators.

Under supervision, the PhD student will be responsible for literature review, data analysis, result interpretation, scientific article writing and data presentation. The successful candidate is expected to apply advanced epidemiological analytical methods (quantitative genetic and/or pharmaco-epidemiological approaches) to explore how genes and environments influence ADHD across the development and to identify the benefits and risks associated with ADHD treatment interventions across multiple medical and functional outcomes.
Highly motivated student with a background in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, psychiatry, psychology or other relevant field.
