Örebro University is currently offering research study opportunities in psychology at the School of Law, Psychology, and Social Work. For the successful candidate, the programme will conclude with the award of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in psychology. The start date of the programme is in the Autumn of 2020.
Research in psychology at Örebro University focuses mainly on developmental psychology and health psychology. The successful candidate will join the Center for Lifespan Developmental Research (LEADER). The researchers affiliated with LEADER conduct research to contribute to the understanding of various aspects of human functioning and development in youth and elderly.
We are looking for a doctoral student with curiosity and interest in psychology with a specialization in development, adjustment, and integration of immigrant youth. The doctoral project includes research on how to promote adjustment and integration of immigrant youth as part of a larger project funded by the Swedish Research Council (www.vr.se). The candiate is expected to collaborate with the project team in different phases of the project and develop a dissertation project based on the project data.
Own research experience in psychology, especially in research related to development of youth with immigrant background is a merit. As the research project involves developing interventions to promote adjustment and integration of newly arrived immigrant youth, it is particularly advantageous if the applicant has good knowledge of or experience with prevention and promotion programs. The applicant must have very good knowledge of English that is needed to pass the postgraduate education in addition to good command of Swedish. It is also a merit if the applicant submits a research plan (max. 5 pages) over the intended area for the research studies, including a theoretical framework, purpose and issues and method. The most qualified candidates will be called for an interview.

The programme
The successful candidate is offered a place on the research study programme concluding with the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology. The programme comprises 240 credits, which corresponds to four years of full-time study. Extensions to the study period are granted for instance to compensate for any sick leave and parental leave.

Doctoral studentships
The position is offered as a full-time doctoral studentship for the duration of the study programme. Duties such as teaching, administration and research other than the student’s own thesis project may be included, however with no more than 20 per cent of a full-time post. To compensate for time spent on such duties, extensions to the programme length and funding period will be granted. The initial salary for a doctoral studentship is 27500 SEK per month.
