Doctoral student in psychology

Arbetsbeskrivning

Örebro University and the School of Law, Psychology, and Social Work are looking for a doctoral student for the doctoral programme in psychology, concluding with a doctoral degree. The start date of the programme is the beginning of September 2022.

Research in psychology at Örebro University focuses mainly on developmental psychology and health psychology. The successful candidate will join the Center for Lifespan Developmental Research (LEADER). The researchers affiliated with LEADER conduct research to contribute to the understanding of various aspects of human functioning and development in youth and elderly.

Project description
We are looking for a doctoral student who is interested in development and social context of peer victimization among adolescents.

The doctoral project will build on theories in developmental and social psychology, and will focus on adolescents’ reactions to bias-based bullying and victimization of peers in school settings (particularly focusing on ethnicity-based, religious-based, appearance-based, or language-based victimization). The specific studies that will comprise the dissertation project may focus on the role of personal characteristics, inter-personal relationships, and social context. Interest and previous knowledge of issues around peer relationship, inter-ethnic relationship, racism, and discrimination especially in school settings could be an advantage.

The doctoral candidate will work with datasets from ongoing longitudinal projects. Strong skills and/or interest in learning advanced data analysis techniques such as multilevel modelling, structural equation modelling, and growth modelling are expected. Opportunities may also arise to learn and use social network analysis and qualitative data analysis. Good command in English (both written and verbal) and analytical skills are required to fulfil the requirements of the doctoral training. The prospective candidate will work in close collaboration with the project leader, senior researchers, and research assistants. Thus, good collaboration skills, willingness to work in groups, and openness to receive feedback are expected qualities.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Sevgi Bayram Özdemir, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology.
