Arbetsbeskrivning
Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.
About the department
The department of Computer Science provides a strong, international, and dynamic research environment with about 30 faculty-members and 10 PhD students.
The research will be conducted within the Software and Information Quality group. The work of this group is focused on i) the development of automated tools that assess quality and ii) further our understanding of how sound mathematical models can be used to describe the quality of software and information. The research is conducted in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg University, Uppsala University, as well as a number of IT companies.
Major responsibilities
The research objective of the PhD position is to work on our static and dynamic information quality assessment tools. You are expected to contribute new approaches to approximate and measure quality attributes, for example by analyzing XML documents or events generated as users interact with a documentation. The research is cross-disciplinary within computer science and software engineering, and includes parsing and transformations, statistical modeling, graph processing, and interactive visualization.
The majority of your working time is devoted to own research studies. It is important you are self-motivated and are prepared to work independently. You will have several supervisors to discuss and ask for guidance but a PhD student is also expected to develop own ideas. You also need to be able to communicate scientific results orally in English as well as in written form. In addition, the position will normally include 20% departmental work, mostly teaching duties.

To qualify as a PhD student, you must have (or expect soon) a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Computer Science and Engineering, or related discipline.
English is our working language for research, and we publish internationally; knowledge of Swedish is not required.
A background and experience in one or more of the following areas is expected: algorithms, compilers, discrete mathematics, probability, and statistics. Courses done in these areas and exposure to research literature and own publications is considered a great advantage.
Programming proficiency in Java and additional languages (such as Javascript and Python) is required. Experience with XML (or HTML) is considered an advantage.
Application
Please follow these instructions carefully. The application is expected to include:
• A short motivation letter; maximum 1 page long.
