Arbetsbeskrivning
Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.
Formal research area: Chemistry
Research in the field of Chemistry at Lnu is performed within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences where strong research areas include molecular biophysics and biotechnology, the focal points of the current project. The research group within which the project shall be undertaken is an integral part of the Linnaeus University Centre for Biomaterials Chemistry.
The project is a part of long-term interdisciplinary effort to develop biomimetic materials and to explore their establishment in a range of applications areas. Of particular interest is their implementation in bio sensing, for catalysis and as (bio) materials for use in various therapeutic applications. The specific aims of the PhD project will be to: 1. Investigate new strategies for generating nanostructured materials in thin film and nanoparticle formats, 2. To exploit these materials in conjunction with sensor development and in proof-of-concept studies in catalysis and/or therapeutic agent development. The work will be performed mainly in Kalmar but visits to labs of collaborators are expected.
Applicants should have a Master degree (240hp/240ECTS) in Chemistry or a subject area with a major focus of direct relevance for the project. Previous, documented experience of research using thin film synthesis and quartz crystal microbalance technology is considered favourable. Furthermore, experience of MALDI-MS and molecular imprinting are of importance for the position, as is a good working knowledge of the English language. Basic prerequisites are laid out in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen), Chapter 5 and 7.
Terms of employment
The vacancy is a fully funded full-time four years appointment with the objective to obtain a PhD.
