Information about the research/the project/the division
We invite applications for one PhD student position in Control for Intelligent Transportation Systems. The position is announced at the Mechatronics Group of the Electrical Engineering Department, where we are engaged in both fundamental and applied research related to intelligent transportation systems. Ongoing research projects in this field focus, among others, on the design and the experimental validation of control algorithms for connected autonomous vehicles.
The successful candidate will join a team of post-docs and Ph. D. students, engaged in neighboring research, and is expected to contribute to the design of learning and prediction algorithms for humans' behavior in traffic. If possible and relevant, the achieved results will be demonstrated through experiments on full-scale vehicles and in collaboration with our industrial partners.
The research project is in collaboration with Ericsson and Zenuity and is strongly connected with ongoing research projects within the WASP (Walleberg Autonomous Systems Program).
Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities are to pursue your own doctoral studies. You are expected to develop your own scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in Swedish and in English. The position generally also includes teaching on Chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to 20 per cent of working hours.
Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years.
Qualifications
For you to qualify as a PhD student, you must have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Applied Math or a relevant field. We are looking for you with a extensive background in control theory and optimization. Programming skills in Matlab are required and in C/C++ are welcome. A genuine interest and curiosity in the subject, excellent oral and written English communication skills are needed.
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but if you have an interest in learning Swedish, Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
