Sahlgrenska akademin utlyser doktorandplatser med placering vid institutionen för biomedicin, institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper, institutionen för medicin och institutionen för neurovetenskap och fysiologi.

Doktorandplatserna avser två års utbildningsbidrag och två års doktorandanställning, alternativt fyra års doktorandanställning, och beräknas leda fram till doktorsexamen.

Importance of food items for symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Description of the research project
In this project we aim to assess the intake of nutrients in patients with IBS, as well as the association between intake of different food items and the onset of gastrointestinal symptoms.Furthermore, potential mechanisms of importance for food-related symptoms in IBS will be addressed by linking results from questionnaires assessing food items and symptoms, with data from investigations of various pathophysiological alterations of importance in this patient group.Finally, the role of dietary advice in the management of these patients will be evaluated in a randomized controlled study, where different strategies of dietary advice to IBS patients are compared with standard medical care.Within the project different methodologies will be used, such as food registration with food diaries, questionnaire development, and different measurements of GI function.
Desired background
It is desirable to be a dietitian, with knowledge of patients with functional GI disorders, as well as dietary advice to these patients.Moreover, knowledge about food registration using food diaries is also of great value for this project.
