The International School of Helsingborg has provided a truly international education at the Primary and Secondary levels since 1995. Today, we have approximately 850 students between 2 and 19 years of age, across all programmes. We are an IB Continuum school, delivering the International Baccalaureate curriculum for all program levels.  English is the primary language of learning at the school.

Our DP Swedish B teacher is moving to a job closer to home after XXX years with us! As a result, we are currently seeking an ambitious Swedish teacher to join our  team. Would you like to join us?

As a teacher of IB Diploma Swedish B (Language Acquisition) you teach learners of Swedish as a second language. 

Swedish Language B is a language acquisition course designed for students with some previous experience of the Swedish language. Students further develop their ability to communicate through the study of language, themes and texts. There are five prescribed themes: identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organisation and sharing the planet. Students learn to communicate in the target language in familiar and unfamiliar contexts. 

The teacher must be able to encourage independent inquiry and reflection. An IB Diploma teacher must also be structured in their approach to feedback and examination revision.

The IB teacher will supervise 4000 word research essays within the field of Swedish Language Acquisition..

As a colleague at ISH a teacher of Swedish B will collaborate with the Swedish department on the development of literature and language teaching, and also with teachers in the Language Acquisition department who teach the same course in French & Spanish. The ideal candidate will also be able to teach English B. Due to demand, this course will not run this academic year but is expected to return in the future. 

Due to the  growing number of Swedish as a Second Language (SvA) learners in our middle school (Years 6-9), it is a distinct advantage if the successful candidate is also enthusiastic to teach the subject to these grades levels. A willingness to teach in our middle years program can lead to the role increasing above a 70% position in the future.

Qualifications
You possess a  teaching degree within the Swedish language/SvA and are qualified to teach at high school level (gymnasium). You have strong experience working within the school system.

It is a requirement for the candidate to be fluent in English, both in speaking and writing. The successful candidate will be a strong team player and have the ability to work collaboratively with co-workers as well as students and parents. You communicate proactively; support and care for others. It will be of great advantage to have experience of the IBDP and also to have previously worked within the international school system.

As a person, you are a positive, open-minded and flexible team player. You must demonstrate enthusiasm, warmth and strong interpersonal skills with children, parents, and colleagues and be committed to diversity and multicultural educational practices.
