Drawing and Painting teacher

We are looking for a head teacher who will both work as an instructor, teaching the students in all subjects at the school, as well as being the work leader for the other teachers, also working with documentation and development of the programs.

The applicant should be a professional artist trained in realist painting, with a minimum of five year's experience teaching academic realist art. It is extremely important that teachers display, through their own art work, a high degree of technical competence and artistic sensibility so that they can impart their knowledge through practical exercises/demonstrations as well as theory. Applicants must have competence in teaching the comparative method and a high level of skill in painting from life, including portrait, figure and still life. Applicants should also be interested in carrying on the tradition of realist painting and developing pedagogical skills within this area. Furthermore, applicants need to have some experience being a work leader and feel comfortable being in an authority position.


BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

The Swedish Academy of Realist Art, (SARA) is one of few fine art schools in the world, dedicated to traditional, realistic drawing and painting. The school uses long-established techniques from the Renaissance, 18th and 19th century western and eastern European academies, as well as contemporary methods to teach its students. Through a demanding training program, students acquire a range of skills that enable them to create personal, contemporary works of art displaying a level of expertise and craftsmanship comparable to the highest standards set centuries ago.
SARA was located in Stockholm for 9 years, and moved during the summer of 2016 to Simrishamn in the south of Sweden. Simrishamn is located in Österlen, Skåne, known for its beautiful nature and high density of artists.
The education lies under the jurisdiction of the YHmyndigheten and students are eligible for CSN loans. The school has 35 student places, typically divided between 2/3 swedish students and 1/3 foreign students. All instruction is held in English. It is a 3 year long fulltime education. We typically have one head teacher and 3 other teachers working at the school as well as a variety of visiting workshop teachers.
