At AstraZeneca we harness data and technology to maximise time for the discovery and delivery of potential new medicines. Right now, we are embedding data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across our R&D to enable our scientists to push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines.
We are looking for a new colleague to join our Molecular AI department. This is an excellent opportunity to combine your scientific experience with your high ambition and enthusiasm to influence the development of AstraZeneca's future in applying your skills to drug discovery projects. The preferred location for this position is Gothenburg (Sweden) but Cambridge (UK) can be considered.
What you will do
You will have a profound impact on multiple projects across AstraZeneca with a focus on applying deep generative models to discover new drugs. This will involve:
* Apply AI-based drug design approaches to support drug discovery projects
* Work closely with medicinal chemists with primary focus on the in-house de novo design platform (REINVENT)
* Develop novel methodologies to enhance deep learning-based molecular de novo design
* Plan, write and publish high quality scientific papers
* Actively participate in mentoring the cohort of postdocs, PhD students and master thesis students in the team
Essential for the role
We believe that you have a true passion for applying computational methods to drug design. You have a PhD o equivalent in chemistry or computational chemistry or another similar discipline - ideally complemented by experience from molecular design in drug discovery projects. We also expect you to have a collaborative nature as well as;
* Experience in working with computational drug design
* Experience in building and applying machine learning models
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable for the role
* Knowledge about medicinal chemistry
* Software development skills, preferably in Python
* Experience in applying deep generative models for molecular design
* Experience with molecular dynamics simulations
