Who are we?
Volvo Cars is a company on a mission; to bring traditional car manufacturing into a connected, sustainable and smart future.
Since 1927, we have been a brand known for our commitment to safety, creating innovative cars that make life less complicated for our consumers. In 2010, we decided to transform our business, resulting in a totally new generation of cars and technologies, as well as steady growth and record sales. Today, we’re expanding our global footprint in Europe, China and the US, and we’re on the lookout for new talent.
We are constantly pushing our own skills and abilities to drive change in the automobile industry like never before. We are looking for innovative, committed people to join us in this endeavour and create safe, sustainable and connected cars. We believe in the power of people and will challenge and support you to reach your full potential. Join us and be part of Volvo Cars’ journey into the future.
What we offer
We are looking for an Analysis Engineer with a passion for cars and computers to join one of our Durability team at our Safety Centre at Volvo Cars Headquarters in Gothenburg.
Durability at Safety Centre secure safety over time in our future cars. We work closely together with design engineering to secure a mechanically durable product and support Volvo Cars in our ambitious journey to provide freedom to move in a personal, sustainable, and safe way. For this we need team members who know how to take virtual analysis to a new level, have knowledge of strength, fatigue, and material science, who think differently to recognize the opportunities that we have, and to support development of new technical solutions, but also to work with data driven development of our requirements.
Safety Centre is one of the three pillars of our company purpose. We are committed to support the most advanced mobility innovations to protect our customers, their loved ones, and the people around. We work to secure a durable product, but we need to balance this and understand that we have a great impact on other attributes like Sustainability, where we need to contribute to improved fuel economy and range and the use of new sustainable materials.
What you will do
You will be a part of one of the Durability Analysis Teams, where you will perform virtual analysis on components and systems, to support Design Engineering with recommendations to secure the durability attribute in our future cars. We work with the body, chassis, closures and trim, with a “home team” depending on your field of expertise. However, we see it as a strength if you are flexible and could join any of the department’s teams, where your skill might be needed for a period.
You will:
* Plan, execute and analyze results of CAE calculations, and present these to stakeholders
* Together with your team members contribute to product development based on experience, attribute knowledge and CAE results
* Take part and contribute to agile development teamwork
* Take part in method and attribute development
* Take part of data driven development of requirements and targets.
* Define and contribute to the development of system requirements, guidelines and other knowledge building activities
* Cooperate, find synergies, and initiate actions with other teams within the department
You and your skills
We see that you have a M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Engineering, and we think that you will need experience in tools like Ansa, Abaqus, Meta, Nastran, LS Dyna or equivalent. If you like programming and scripting it is a huge plus, as well as being interested and having experience from physical analysis. You have a genuine interest in the physics, mechanics, and materials, and you preferably hold a Driver’s license (B).
On a personal level, you are an excellent communicator who enjoys being in the spotlight and build knowledge and understanding to our stakeholders at the design departments to implement our recommendations. You appreciate being part of a team who solve problems together, and to share knowledge is a core value for you. You want to contribute to an optimized product; durable yet balanced with respect to cost, weight and design. You take ownership, have an eye for detail, keep structure and deliver quality and quantity both independently and as part of the team.
