Electrical Apparatus Scientist

Responsibilities
As an Electrical Apparatus Scientist you are a part of the Industrial R&D at ABB Corporate Research within the Power Technology department in the group Power Systems and Apparatus. In the Power Systems and Apparatus group we are working with corporate R&D in the field of electrical power apparatus and their interaction and integration in the power system. In the team we are working with the next generation apparatus from idea to prototype or field installation. The apparatus can be tap changers, grounding switches, circuit breakers, operating mechanisms, transformers etc.

The task of the Electrical Apparatus Scientist is to create and execute R&D projects in a cross disciplinary and international environment. The work will partly involve developing R&D strategy and technology roadmaps, and also to utilize and influence the R&D efforts at universities. The work is mainly carried out in project form.

Qualifications
In the innovation process it is very important to have the ability to see trends and possibilities in order to focus on the right R&D projects for future business success. As a development engineer in our team we expect that you have a PhD or MSc (with experience) in power technologies with excellent knowledge in electrical apparatus. You also have the ability to overview the economical, technical and environmental aspects of the equipment behavior/characteristics operating within a power system. The work will also include analysis, measurement and simulation of equipment operating within a power system.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. An individual who takes initiatives and is creative is valuable in the team effort to deliver results in the projects.

Field experience from electric power distribution and project management are considered desirable merits.
