Arbetsbeskrivning
ABB (www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility, industry, and transport and infrastructure customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in roughly 100 countries and employs about 140,000 people.
You will be part of HVDC within the Power Systems division in Ludvika. The HVDC technology has been on the market for the past 60 years and is used, among other things, to transmit power over long distances with minimal losses, using overhead lines, underground and submarine cable systems.
The electrical valve design department is a part of ABB HVDC Products in Ludvika and it is responsible for the electrical design of semiconductor based HVDC and SVC valves. HVDC valves are used to convert AC to DC, and vice versa, and are essential for HVDC power transmissions. SVC valves are used in SVC systems, in order to support and stabilize AC systems. The electrical design department has 15 employees and works in close collaboration with our offices in India and China. The department is working about 50 % with technical tender and delivery project work and about 50 % with R&D.

Tasks
Would you like to help us develop the HVDC technique of tomorrow? As our new Electrical Valve Design Engineer you will work with power electronics in high power transmission applications, Power Systems' HVDC. On a regular basis you will perform semiconductor valve calculations and simulations in order to find out voltage stresses and losses in the semiconductors and valve electronics. The theoretic calculations will be combined with high power testing in our test laboratories. It will be your task to specify the testing and ensure that it is performed in accordance with valid standards and customer specifications.
Requirements
You hold a Bachelor of Science, or preferably a Master of Science, in Power Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent. Work experience is preferable, but not a demand. It is equally valuable if you have worked with software like MATLAB, Mathcad or PSCAD. As you will be part of a company that operates on the global arena, you must be proficient in English. Preferably you are also fluent in Swedish.
It will be a part of your job during projects, tenders and development to communicate with other departments, team members, projects leaders, suppliers and customers. It is therefore important that you are open-minded and straightforward in your communication. Finally, you are a natural problem solver, who enjoys meeting new challenges.
