The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, and founded by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, is Europe's leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons. The ILL operates the brightest neutron source in the world, reliably delivering intense neutron beams to 40 unique scientific instruments. Every year, the Institute hosts over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to carry out world-class research in solid-state physics, crystallography, soft matter, biology, chemistry and fundamental physics. The Projects and Techniques Division, which is responsible for the development of the ILL's instruments and for technical support, currently has a vacancy for an:
Electrician
Duties:
As a member of the Building and Site Maintenance Service, which is part of the ILL's Projects and Techniques Division, you will have the following duties:
- Install and commission electrical equipment, using assembly drawings/diagrams, in accordance with safety regulations and industry best practice
- Install and connect wires/cables, equipment and cable trays.
- Install wires/cables and connect them to the electrical panels (distribution board, general low-voltage switchboard, control panel, etc.) with which the installations are equipped
- Perform all or part of equipment commissioning
- Perform new work, but also alterations, upgrades, extensions and modifications to ensure installation compliance in the event of changes to regulations
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, where necessary.
In the course of these duties, you may be required to work at height.
Qualifications and experience:
- You have a Level 3 qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, apprenticeship or equivalent) in electrical installations,
- You have at least 5 years of professional experience as an industrial electrician (not commercial/domestic),
- You have good organisational skills and are able to work quickly. You are an excellent team player with an ability to use your own initiative,
- You are punctual and reliable and are able to work to schedule and respect working hours.
Language skills:
As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
Notes:
This post is a permanent position. Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required. Post based in GRENOBLE, France, and subject to administrative screening.
