EMC engineer
Position Description
Do you have a great interest and like to work to ensure electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) within product development?
Connected, electric and autonomous machines are making their way into our lives, and it is happening fast! We at Volvo Construction Equipment in Eskilstuna conduct research and development towards these areas & technologies. This paradigm shift in the construction industry introduces new EMC challenges and we need to strengthen our team to support and guide various design teams within the area of EMC.
This position is part of the journey to make our future electric and electronic systems as well as the complete machine electronic system resilient and compliant towards EMC.
This role is to increase the quality in EMC activities in the development of components, subsystems, and machines by contributing with EMC requirement establishments, involvement in supplier dialogue, EMC test plan reviewing, EMC test results reviewing and assessment. The role is working proactively and include focus on EMC by design and supporting design and verification engineers in various projects to secure that the electrical system is EMC compliant.

Embedded Electronic Systems (EES) Architecture is a function within Volvo CE’s Technology organization. We are responsible to develop and establish the electronic system architecture to be functional for all our machines meeting stakeholder and customer needs. Global EMC management responsibility is included within our function.

When working within EES Architecture team, the collaboration within Volvo CE and Volvo Group to develop common solutions, gives an extensive network with colleagues from all cultures and areas. What will you be doing?
As EMC Engineer you will be working with:
Ensure that proper EMC requirements are raised on components through:
Reviewing of EMC part of component Technical Regulation, standards and legislations
Leading in the maintenance of Volvo EMC standard, processes and methods within the domain of EMC
Contribution in various projects through:
Hands-on advice/support for Project leaders, design engineers and Component owners
Review suppliers EMC test plan (setups and EMC test descriptions)
Evaluate need for, plan, prepare and execute ESA (Electronic Sub Assembly) testing in projects when needed. Supplier is primarily responsible for ESA testing
Support in plan, prepare and execute Complete Machine EMC testing upon request
Review test reports
Give EMC recommendation for acceptance of EMC test results based on suppliers or other EMC test results analysis
Continuously develop an understanding for the machine electrical system and the EMC environment in which the components shall operate in
Continuously develop an understanding of the usage of the product as an end customer
Evaluate new methods/methodologies (e.g. supervision, simulation)

We also believe you have:
Relevant academic background, e.g. Bachelor and/or master’s degree
Good communication skill in English, proficiency in Swedish is desirable
Experience from the EMC field and in performing EMC testing
Basic knowledge in using EMC measuring and monitoring (preferably CANalyzer and/or CANoe) equipment
Knowledge of international EMC standards and legislations
Good knowledge of analogue, digital circuit design and PCB design
A genuine interest in technology, especially in electronics and electrical engineering
Great interest and curiosity in the area and willingness to challenge yourself and learn
