Energy engineer - Energy & Hydrogen Technology

LKAB already produces the world’s most climate-efficient iron ore pellets at the mines and processing plants in Malmberget, Svappavaara and Kiruna, but we will be better, much better. Our goal is to convert our entire current production from coal and oil to CO2-free electricity and hydrogen where fossil-free fuels are partial steps towards total CO2-free. We will also take another step in the value chain and further develop our iron ore pellet into pure iron, so-called sponge iron, also completely CO2-free. The challenge is enormous and will require 70TWh of energy to be brought into our processes, where it will be further processed together with our high-quality iron ore into completely CO2-free iron. The first plant is already underway and is scheduled for completion in 2026 in Gällivare.
To manage the transition, the profitability of existing production is crucial, and we are constantly striving for safer and smarter solutions. An important part of this is energy efficiency improvements and energy conversion. All our fossil fuels will be phased out and we are constantly chasing the unnecessary kilowatt hour.
The Energy & Hydrogen Technology section is a newly formed section within the Technology & Energy department. The section’s mission will develop over time and is initially to work for energy efficiency, energy conversion, self-production of power, waste heat, electrolysis, hydrogen, fuel switching and energy market issues.
About the position
As energy engineer for Svappavaara you will be the main person for energy related development issues both for existing and future production systems for LKAB’s operations in Svappavaara. You will work with energy monitoring systems and energy improvements, and you will be the area’s contact person for energy-related issues.
We are looking for a motivated and committed colleague with experience in relevant subject areas.
Location: Gällivare, Kiruna or Svappavaara.
The position requires some travelling, both within and outside the country.
Your qualifications
To succeed in this role, we expect you to have the ability to communicate and collaborate. We see that you work systematically, independently and have the ability to think ahead.
Academic degree, university engineer/civil engineer or equivalent.
Experience from the energy sector such as energy management and follow-up, energy efficiency, waste heat, power generation and energy conversion (supply and logistics) is an advantage.
