Energy, Science & Environment Outreach Assistant

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
Support implementation of the Embassy's priority project, alternative energy cooperation between the U.S.and Sweden.Prepare public reports, speeches and editorials on U.S.climate and energy policy.Research environmental policies in the U.S.and Sweden.Develop contacts with Swedish educational and research institutions.Facilitate in-house and external meetings and discussions of alternative energy and science and technology topics.Carry out special projects associated with Sweden's EU Presidency.Conduct audience research to expand Embassy's contacts in energy and scientific fields.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
.Education: Bachelor's degree or higher education.Education in economics or the sciences preferred.
.Prior work experience: At least one year work experience in a position dealing with program management or research and drafting.
.Job knowledge: Must have knowledge of basic trends in Swedish, American and global environmental policy.Knowledge of climate change policies strongly desired.
.Skills and abilities: Research skills, drafting abilities in English and Swedish.Computer skills, including PowerPoint.Networking skills desirable, ability to work with a team required.
.Level 4 written and spoken Swedish and English required.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

This position is available to Swedish nationals or permanent legal residents as well as
to American citizens with permanent residence permits in Sweden, under the terms of
the Rockefeller amendment authorizing Embassies to hire Americans abroad for FSN
positions, and Embassy American Family Members.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

The selected applicant is subject to medical clearance and limited security investigation and clearance.

WORK HOURS: Full time; 40 hours/week
SALARY : gross salary 329,302 Sek
(If qualifications are not met may start at a training grade)
STARTING DATE: On or about March 1, 2009
LENGTH OF HIRE: Temporary position for 18 months with possibility of extension.
