About us
Every time you travel by air, almost anywhere in the world, it is likely that GKN Aerospace is helping you on your way. Our technologies and components are used in 90% of the world’s aircraft, ranging from the most used single aisle aircraft to the largest passenger planes in the world as well as business jets and the world’s most advanced 5th generation fighter aircraft. We are continuously evolving, pioneering new technologies and reinventing existing ones, stretching ourselves to be better in everything we do.
We are looking for people who want to make a difference, talented members with the skills and passions to become the best of the future in what they do. Join us in influencing the sustainable transformation of the aerospace industry and find a place where your talent takes off in a world of tremendous opportunities to learn and develop.
Job Summary
Driven by the vision of sustainable aerospace innovation, GKN Aerospace develop large scale additive manufacturing, saving waste material and creating new design concepts for lower weight and integrated functionality. The technology target engine structures in advanced material, in sizes up to 3 meter in diameter.
Global Technology Center (GTC) in Trollhättan are looking for a development engineer with deep interest in process simulation, and more specifically additive manufacturing processes. The team utilize CFD (aerodynamic), FEM (solid mechanics), or pure mathematical algorithms op model the physics, with the focus to develop a qualitative and effective additive process.
This role focus on performing and develop FEM simulations with focus on DED additive processes and the work will naturally also bridge between simulation and process monitoring and test data.
You need have a desire for both application programming and applied process work, with a curiosity to understanding the physics of the welding/additive process. As such, you are also interested in spending time in the robot-laser or powder-bed cells to get deeper understanding of the welding process. You will guide the process development based on simulation and machine learning monitoring in everything from design of experiments of simple tests pieces to large-scale prototypes.
Job Responsibilities
The primary role is to develop and apply process simulation methods for next generation additive processes.
Typical responsibilities:
Develop process simulation and monitoring methods, specifically targeting for additive and welding technology
Perform application coding, simulation and be part of running test and experiments
Drive technology development projects within GTC
Document and present results in Technology Readiness Reviews
Contribute with creativity and support colleagues in our technology teams, with the future possibility to take on leader roles within GTC
Participate in, and by time, lead research programs in corporation with universities
The work is performed jointly with your team colleagues, through internal technology development projects and in research projects often done in bilateral or multilateral collaboration with our GKN colleagues, industry and academic partners and customers.
Job Qualifications
We are looking for someone who have a genuine interest in people with good social skills and the ability to create effective networks. You feel comfortable communicating and presenting plans and results both internally and externally with our partners, both on a national and global level. In addition, we see that you contribute to creating a positive atmosphere and act as a role model within the team. You like to take ownership and want to contribute with structure in an innovative and creative environment where technical problem solving is a cornerstone of our business. We value freedom under responsibility, trust that people support each other and give their best.
Essential qualifications are:
You are an MSc, or potentially a PhD, with a competence profile in physics, mathematics or data science
You have experience and/or deep interest in programming (C, C++, python, matlab, GIT)
You have experience or a desire to learn about welding process and new materials
Experience in various FEM or CFD codes are merits (CFX, ANSYS, SIMUFACT, MARC …)
You are proficient in English, both in speaking and in writing
