Our world-leading subscription management products currently reach 18.7 million users and help people save time, money and effort.
We are and develop world-class talents, trusting each other's knowledge and experience to achieve great things together. About the job
We have a community of software engineers working across 6 product teams. We are now transitioning from a successful start-up to a scale-up, and continue to grow our organisation and enable further market expansion. We need you to help us grow our community, nurture our engineers and navigate the rocky road of scaling up an organisation.
Many of us at Minna have experience of stereotypical uninvolved, uncaring or outright command-and-control managers or from other companies, which is something that would never play with us. Here we’re looking for someone that can work collaboratively, lead through influencing and genuinely wanting the best for everyone and from everyone.
You’ll often work together with stakeholders from many parts of the business, and facilitate collaboration between teams. You’ll be a catalyst in our engineering community and help elevate the effectiveness and quality across the company. In your previous roles we think people naturally sought your advice and gravitated towards following your lead, not because of your position but because your insights and advice were appreciated.

A day as an Engineering Manager
Instead of us trying to convey what the role entails, we’ll illustrate it with an example of a unusually busy day as a manager at Minna:
- 09:00-09:15- This is the time our teams have their standup, you choose to join a couple of them to gain more insight into your talents daily challenges.
- 09:15-10:00- You join the weekly community leadership session. At Minna we believe in leadership development and constantly help each other grow. In this session, leaders share problems and coach each other. You choose to share a situation with a talent you find particularly difficult and get great advice from your peers, leaving you feeling energized to tackle the problem. Then you coach two other managers that were struggling with situations you’ve successfully dealt with before.
- 10:00-11:00- This is an open slot that you leave open because you want to always have time for your talents. Today, one of your international talents reached out to seek help to fill out their application for a Swedish personal number. Then one of the team leads shares a worry that one of your talents is underperforming. You then spend the rest of the hour investigating by looking at their pull requests, Jira stories and talking to some of the talent’s peers.
- 11:00-11:30- You have the first introductory interview with a candidate for a Senior Frontend developer position. Your goal is to present Minna, find out what the candidate sees themselves doing in the future and if that aligns with what Minna needs. And of course you very much want to figure out if you believe this candidate could be a good culture fit.
- 11:30-12:00- You catch up on different Slack threads.
- 12:00-13:00- You’re heating up your lunch box and chit chatting with people in the lunchroom. Using lunch as an opportunity to build a closer personal relation with other Minnas from across the organisation.
- 13:00-13:30- You have a one-to-one meeting with a talent, where you both decide to go for a walk-and-talk in the nice weather. They need to ventilate that they don’t feel adequate as a parent, and as a fellow parent you can relate, and you end up growing closer during the conversation.
- 13:30-14:30- You blocked this slot for leadership by walking around, you managed to pass by 4 out of your 10 talents and participated in some discussions.
- 14:30-15:30- You have a personal development session with one of your talents using Minna’s own impact-based career framework. You discuss how this talent can work towards contributing more to the company’s technical vision.
- 15:30-16:30- One of your talents started to work on a new story. You thought this was a great opportunity to learn more about the talent’s backend development prowess and get insight into this part of the system, so you decide to spend an hour pair-programming.
- 16:30-17:00- You and a fellow engineering manager have a short session to discuss a new workshop that you’re going to hold. It’s about site reliability engineering, a skillset and process framework you want to develop in the engineering community.
- 17:00-18:00- You catch up on non-urgent Slack and email correspondences, do some research, read some articles.
What we are looking for
You are looking for your next big challenge and would be eager to join a scale-up that is as dynamic as you are. You want to find a workplace where you can take initiative for change and make a big impact. An environment that will help you grow, and rocket-boost your evolution as a manager.
- Sensitive to developers needs and can create warm relationships with our people.
- Humble and comfortable as a servant leader and coach.
- Mentoring and inspiring senior developers has been a thing you’ve enjoyed doing.
- Skilled at noticing patterns and behaviours.
- Experience from some role in the software engineering industry.
- Good communication and fluent in English. We’re a multicultural company and Swedish is not a requirement in this job.
- Skilled at adapting your communication to the receiver - be it developers, product people or sales.
- As a person you consider yourself open-minded, prejudice-free, and embracing of change.
