Stora Enso is replacing graphic with hard carbon that is a bio-based alternative made from lignin; an existing by-product in the production of cellulose fiber. Stora Enso’s Biomaterials Innovation team acts as a center of excellence in next generation of sustainable batteries. To develop and commercialize innovative carbon-based materials, derived from renewable biogenic resources, for sustainable batteries is the area they are very passionate about. The target is to revolutionise battery technology in order to sustainably cover the needs for energy storage in an electrified future.

YOU WILL
As an Engineering Manager for Lignode project you will be responsible for all the external and internal engineering disciplines and to support and drive development of the Lignode projects towards commercial solution. We are now in the feasibility phase, and you will be responsible to lead part of the projects into the execution phase. As Engineering Manager you will report to the Manager of Projects and as resources can be located in different countries there is a need for you to be flexible in traveling. Project development and execution resources are located mainly in Helsinki, Düsseldorf, and Stockholm areas. Our working mode is hybrid and therefore your home base can be in Finland, Germany, or Sweden, where Stora Enso has an office.
Your tasks will include:
- Planning and engineering of projects.
- Manage a team of engineering designers which will require setting clear goals and expectations (not direct reports).
- Leading consultant engineering work in given schedule.
- Advising in investment decisions and selecting appropriate technology to meet Stora Enso’s Financial and sustainability objectives.
- Collaborate and coordinate with project managers, project owners, customers, and other internal and external experts in order to execute design concepts that deliver on brand goals, business goals, and are technically feasible to implement.
- Ensure that objectives of the own project area across all disciplines are achieved in accordance with agreed targets and project guidelines in your responsible area.
YOU ARE
We are looking for an individual with the ability to develop and maintain an excellent contact network within Stora Enso as well as with external stakeholders. You need to have experience from project execution and engineering management, work optimization and knowledge of working in a matrix organization. It is crucial that you have the ability to be able to work independently based on directives given by project steering groups or mill management and it will be meritorious if you have knowledge of an anod or catod factory.
Other qualifications & Skills
- University degree (MSc or BSc) in Engineering.
- Experience in investment planning and implementation of novel technologies and process approach.
- Proven ability to supervise consultants/experts to expected outcome.
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
- Proficient in engineering and planning tools and techniques.
- Fluent in English (both written and oral). Other languages are an advantage.
