To strengthen our operations, we are currently looking for an materials engineer with great interest in method development and laboratory work. The position is located at the Mechanical Metallurgy and Corrosion unit within Strategic Research in Sandviken.
Strategic Research is a central core function at SMT supporting all three divisions, Tube, Strip and Kanthal. The Mechanical Metallurgy and Corrosion unit within Strategic Research provide advanced competencies in the areas of corrosion, mechanical properties, heat treatment and sample preparation. We contribute with knowledge, generate high-quality test results and develop new and existing test methods. We work with a broad spectrum of methods, from standardized testing methods to complex methods of own design. The team consists of 13 persons including highly skilled engineers, specialists, experts and laboratory technicians.
Job Summary
As a Materials Engineer, your tasks are versatile, however, focus will be tasks related to the competence area mechanical properties. Your main task is method development, you also conduct tests and help to keep the laboratory in good shape. One other important area is to contribute with your knowledge to research and development projects or customer questions, which depending on project’s needs, may involve theoretical work as well as recommending testing approaches and setting up test matrices. We are actively working to increase flexibility in our operation. Therefore you may be assigned other tasks within or outside the department.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with thorough knowledge of materials engineering. You have a M.Sc. degree in Materials engineering or similar and several years of work experience in relevant field. Most important for you to thrive on this position is that you are an experienced laboratory engineer with the ability to carry out practical work. You have comprehensive practical and theoretical knowledge in mechanical testing methodology, as well as several years of experience with relevant method development. You have the ability to suggest and set up suitable tests to obtain the answers needed for the material and application in question. In this position you need to present a solid understanding of measurement devices, hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, instrumentation and software. Knowledge of SMT’s materials and applications is a plus. As we work in an international company, you need very good skills in English, in both speaking and writing. To be well-suited to this position, you also need to be able to carry out informal conversation in Swedish.
